Since the method mentioned here does not work for you, you can always call support and they'll send someone to come and set it for you. Did it the same way (which was before I read that thread).
For TP-Link RE305 Extender to detect the 5G of Airtel XStream broadband router, settings of the router are required to be changed as follows as intimated by tp-link Helpline: -
For 2.4 GHz (even if being detected)- Channel value 11. Channel width 40 MHz.
For 5G- Channel value 44. Channel width 80 MHz.
These setting changes are not accessible to the customer & have to be done by the Airtel Technical Support at the back end. An email request to 121@in.airtel.com promptly gets the desired response and the tp-link RE305 extender connects to 5G of the Airtel router, after rebooting both.
