Hi Folks,

I have 2 broadband connections at home of 100 Mbps and 250 Mbps. I'd like to setup a way to have automatic fail over and load balancing on these two lines and was searching for gigabit multi wan broadband routers and came across TP-Link TL-R605. Has anybody used this or other similar products ?

If I want to add wireless capability to this what would be the best way to go ? I don't want to buy another 5K+ router just to use it as a access point. I couldn't find an cheap AX APs on Amazon / Flipkart.

Any advice ?

Thanks.

7600 on Amazon. I think someone here is using Asus or Netgear router that allows multi-wan. Might be better value for money. I have owned a TP-Link model like this but with 100mbps ports. It worked fine. But it's better to get something like ERX or Mikrotik which are likely to provide better performance. ERX is more or less dead support wise but works well for me.

I think the ER-X cannot handle a 100 Mbit and 250 Mbit connection due to its harware limitations . Mikrotik would be great . The community is very helpful , but the UI is not user friendly. But it is easy to figure it out with basic Networking knowledge. I have not used TL-R605 but looking at its UI , TP-Link lacks features even though you shell out 7k+ .

Get something in Mikrotik and pair it with your AP

Well the Mikrotik website has listed few vendors in Mumbai Chennai and Coimbatore . Nehru place is also included in that

@jayanth rb450gx4 will be a really nice fit for this. (I have it configure with LTE failover along side the main wan connection).
It can easily do upwards of 500mbit even with very resource consuming QoS algorithms(like cake).
I bought mine for around 10k few months back from multilink.

Load balancing 2 wan connections with ECMP(or non ECMP) or configuring 1 main wan and 1 failover is quite easy too.

@ishanjain28 Thanks Ishan 🙂
I was looking at multilink website, they have some interesting products not seen with other vendors.
EDIT: Where did you buy the enclosure for that board ? I couldn't find one on Multilink website.

I recently bought Mikrotik rb750g3 from multilink. Will be using it as a load balancing, fail over and for setting up different ip pools for iot and other things. Will be setting it up today or tomorrow.
