Airtel XStream 3999 plan will come with a complimentary 1GBps Wifi Router

I also have a netplus running at 100mbps and it gives 100mbps stable all day long. My wifi security cameras connect to the 2.4ghz with ease. This router just doesnt have the range at all. the cameras dont pick it up, Even my phone picks up no signal.
Im ok with even 210mbps when I pay for 300mbps but getting 140-150 just doesnt seem right.

Meanwhile, I am getting upto 800-900mbps on my 300mbps plan for quite few days.
Is this on Ookla or actually getting 800 Mbps ? Isnt it limited by your machine`s write speed

I got the 300mbps plan and got a Nokia Router...the one which has 2 antennaes....speed and range both pathetic!!
Over wifi Im getting 140-150mbps on the 5ghz band and a pathetic 2-30mbps on the 2.4ghz
Engineer has come 3 times and restarted the router about 15 times....no resolution.

This is surprising.

  • How far is the client from WiFI router ?
  • Which device are you using to test ? (E.g.: Which phone / if Desktop, Laptop then what is the WiFi card ? )
I get 320 to 380 mbps on WiFi with Nokia router (provided by Airtel). This is on a 300 mbps plan.

Something is wrong here, raise a support ticket with Airtel.

iPhone 12 has good WiFi (2x2 mu-mimo). It should be able to use up to ~600mbps on WiFi AC.

Yes have raised a ticket since the day ot was installed that is 9th March 2021. When they fired up the router the technician said the speed will take a few days to be normal. that day it was 120-140mbps. Have been on the phone with them since that day. Just now got a call that some power switch in the back end was not working and they are on the job.

2.5 Gbps is less of a jump than 10Gbps. So I assume once we jump to XG(E)PON, 1Gbps becomes ubiquitous. It will probably take a decade to start in tier 1 cities.

It is probably not necessary in the first place cause YouTube uploads generally start throttling at 500 Mbps. What I mean to say is, many websites still don't have a big ingest capacity or limit it by IP. Unless there is a small studio or office with multiple parallel upload or download. 2.5Gig is not needed and ISP will try to cover maximum users on single port. The place where it will be needed is Educational institutions.

You also need a good device to get that kind of Read/Write speeds
