Understanding Optilink XONT Frequency Bands

One of my relatives recently got BSNL FTTH connection and got the router - Optilink OP-XONT 71110AC. This router is broadcasting two separate frequency bands (2.4 GHz & 5 GHz). My understanding is that (as I have BSNL FTTH with Archer C6) the signal output should be one band and the connecting device will decide which band to latch on to based on the proximity of the device to the router. Can someone help explaining why this model is different? Thank you.

The issue that they are facing is that, as expected, 5 GHz band does not have good reach and hence WiFi is getting cut off when they move away from the router. Hence, want to update the settings to broadcast both bands through the same ID so that the device can decide which one to connect to. Kindly help to achieve the same. Thank you.

Just simply try to name AP for both bands with same name.
It may or may not work.
For Archer c6, you can enable smart connect.
