can always become a venture capitalist. everyone with disposable money is doing it these days.

Arattai by ZOHO corp is a great messaging app, its in the public beta now, so there are some minor bugs. the UI is clean and minimal.

can't get myself to use any product from that company when their founder is a hard core sanghi. zoho does have some well priced product. almost got tempted to use their email service few months ago. but sticking to keeping them in my blocklist.

Telegram for now..

I will wait to see what happens to my WhatsApp account after 08-Feb if I don't accept privacy policy.
For now I have all 3 apps running on my phone.

I’m very tempted to try out Signal, but I’m dependent on WhatsApp for joining my classes and stuff. It’d be weird to have an account on a messaging app with nobody to text.

chicken and egg. get on signal. invite your friends. move your personal conversations to it. use whatsapp for class related stuff. try to move personal chats and groups to signal.

I tried that with telegram but I find the 'reasons' people give is almost a tragic comedy show by itself. I have given up. To each his own. I guess in physics it would be called Newtons law of inertia 😁
Ultimately I too may find myself using two but will fully pull out of WhatsApp in the near future.

it will not work for most but in my case, where i have no obligation to have whatsapp on my phone for work or education... i have a simple policy. if you want to contact me, use sms/rcs or telegram. i am not going to get on whatsapp just because you are too lazy to use sms or call me. pretty much everyone i communicate with on a regular basis has telegram installed over the years. and eventually they started using it with their other friends and so no. no one has dumped whatsapp. but that does not matter to me.

i do get it that this is not an option for most. and i would probably not have the same option if i was doing a regular job these days. in any case, logic dictates that official communication should happen over email and not whatsapp. you should not be obligated to be available to your bosses over whatsapp 24x7. any decent company who value the security and privacy of their data would probably use slack or a similar business focused communication platform over letting people dump company/client data over whatsapp.

Now that you mentioned RCS I wish all messages apps get their act together & support interoperability.
I have found a msg from Samsung Messages (SM) will not go as a rcs msg to Google Messages (GM) & vice versa.

rcs won't work till google makes it part of android activation platform. they are already on the way though by forcing the google messages app for sms on all major android oem partners. even if you have messages installed, you need to activate it manually right now. no one does it.

and of course. Apple would probably never support it.

My kid's school teacher has made WhatsApp official means of communication. They have created class-wise groups on which they send Zoom meeting details for online classes, as well as other school updates. This is followed by all classes and their respective teachers. So not sure when they would stop using WhatsApp.
Similar I am part of Society group, job update group along with personal groups like friends group from college, past companies, family, etc, etc. Would be hard to part away with all these.

I guess Children's school group & society group would come in the 'impossible to change category' others could be doable but v v difficult. I find that most ignorant are the loudest cheerleaders for the 'stay put' camp.🤦. A relative in the IT line was just telling me he will wait for the dust to settle & then decide. I told him to take a leadership role to convince people before Newtons law of inertia takes over again. 🤣🤣
