@manu1991 I think they cannot be disposed and generated like that while linked to a bank acc . I have never seen any bank do that . If anyone has used it , do tell which bank issues it

Also do any card companies allow you to turn off and on international/online payments easily (from the app or something). SMS based 2FA is useless since most stolen cards are used internationally

I have only seen this with SBI where you could generate a virtual card online from netbanking with a fixed balance in it. I think it allowed deletion and regeneration as well but not sure. This was a long time ago though

all new cards now come with international payments disabled. and all banks are now required to (supposed to) provide an option to enable/disable it from the online portal or app.

just went through my banking apps...

idfc has good controls for the debit cards. i can set limits and disable it for international payments.
indus also has good control for their debit cards. have limits. i can also disable samsung pay and nfc.
yes bank debit card has very complicated controls. credit card seems to only have enable and disable for international payments. no limits from the looks of it.

man this is the debit card control section on the website.

this seems to be offline usage and not online. and so so messy.

Here people will start using it to get free trials . Eventually they will have to close it . The amount of debit card numbers they will have to issue by Visa and Maestro will be massive

No no I use it almost every other day. You just have to register your HDFC credit card on the platform and then you can generate a virtual card with a limit specified. It generates a visa/mastercard card with a cvv and an expiry date of 3 months from now. You can only use this card for a single transaction. Any balance on the card is refunded within a few days when the charge goes through.

This is a major factor in me sticking with HDFC cards and not switching.

Kotak mahindra net banking too has this feature. But the one and only time I tried using it to pay my internet bill it didnt work.

SBI has stopped providing that virtual debit card feature. The option is still there in netbanking but it shows " not available". Also, you can turn off/ on international / pos/ atm/ nfc channels, etc, set limits using YONO on your SBI credit debit cards easily.

Virtual cards can be identified based on the starting 4 digits so can be easily disallowed for offers.
Hdfc allows unlimited free vcc.

I think most bank have options to disable international transactions or set limit. But it is not convenient to turn on off those options every time.

One card provides best interface for disabling/enabling transactions from the app.

I just ordered lunch from swiggy and it was juspay that processed my cc transaction... so I guess it's business as usual 🙄
