While I was almost decided on getting the non-stick tawa for dosas but seeing the benefits of cast iron over non-stick made me to change my mind.
I need some suggestions as to which brand should I go for and the quality of the same.
I am looking for a flat tawa instead of a bordered ones at the edges to help in easy removing of dosas.
Are there any cons of getting a smaller than 12 inch/30cms tawa. Most of them on Amazon are 12inches ones.

Also how should we maintain it?

Solution
Forgot to update this thread... I have got a Meyer's cast iron tawa from a local store for ₹2600. Will season it and hopefully it will be ready by Saturday.
How much did it cost you?
No sale. Price is already down to lowest for a while based on keepa tracking.

There are expensive models with similar flat design with handles from other companies. i did not want to spend so much because mom is not a fan of using these heavy utensils. I also noticed that you can also buy a wider design flat tawas that can be put on two burners to make 2 dosas or 3-4 rotis at the same time at home lol.

Any good chef knife to recommend?
i did buy solimos 4 knife set few years ago. they are pretty decent quality. of course, it's best to have a knife sharpner at home to use these ones. the largest knife which i believe is to cut meat is so big and scary that mom refused to keep it in the kitchen and it is now lying hidden in some drawer. for smaller knives, i am quite happy with victorinox. for 300 bucks, they are quite nice and last for very long.

just checked. looks like i bought the solimo three knife set. large one is definitely not for vegetarian families (or families that get cut meat from the market!)

That large one is chef knife not the butcher knife.
I was after that one only. Ordered 2pc set.
Yep knife sharpener is a must for these.

Any suggestions for a grill pan? If cast iron is better or aluminum.

Mainly for grilling chicken breast at home.

Cast Iron is definitely better. You should avoid aluminium and non stick coated pans altogether.

Stainless steel is another good choice. Requires less maintenance than cast iron.

You would've to use slightly more oil than normal though since there is no coating

I have been using this since ages

Nope if you want that finish, then it would have to be cast iron. Stainless steel utensils are always flat types
