I came across the following article which claims that Airtel is providing a Wi-Fi router which is capable of delivering gigabit speeds over Wi-Fi along with their gigabit extreme fibre plan. However, there is no mention of the model of the router provided. Any clues?

Ask this for this one to be installed if you don't already have it. They will upgrade you to it if you are active on the 1Gbps INR 3999 plan.

Model Name: H680GM-A
Hardware Version: DPW:G-P-H680GM-A2
Software Version: V3.2.2030065 (Mine came with this version, today)
Manufacturer: DASAN Networks

As usual, plans can be changed anytime as needed, the device stays.

Same one as already posted

I had their Nokia prior to this. Range and throughput are comparatively better than that one. It has 6 tall external antennas and looks rather beastly. No problems on either channels. To get wireless speeds worthy of 1Gbps connection they should consider providing a WiFi 6 (802.11 ax) option as well.

@bhuvanmisra : so you had upgraded the plan and then a new device was provided?

Or was it earlier Nokia and they upgraded you to this after some complaints?

Some context : am in 3 BHK house in Mumbai using 200 mbps plan. But range is Quite bad. Want to test this ONT to see if this works or not.

In your context, considering the walls and potential wireless interference from neighbouring flats I’d recommend upgrading to a tri-band Mesh router system first (something like Asus Zenwifi XT8 or Orbi RBK852) before bumping up the plan speeds. I’m using the older Orbi RBK50 since a couple of years and extremely satisfied with it.
Airtel provides this DASAN unit only with 1Gbps plan. I had upgraded from 100 Mbps for the speed, not this router.

Which Nokia router do you have? I have the Nokia G2424G-A in my 2BHK in Mumbai. The coverage is similar/slight better to TP-Link Archer C6.

Place the router in the passage, with the anteena below the beams. You will see better coverage.

If this isn't a possibility, better to opt for a mesh router. Make sure you get a triband one (dedicated 5ghz backhaul for the mesh!)

Just got my plan changed to 1 gbps and no one from airtel came to replace the ont with 4x4 one.

Called airtel local team and they said there is no such ont that exists. When i told them that see the airtel press release page then they were clueless. They even said that we will only provide mesh router for free with plan lock in period of 2 years. But no 4x4 router will be given.

Guys what should i do now ?

One question: if airtel provide me DASAN 4x4 ont then if I change my plan to lower one later then will they charge me for this ont or take back that ont ?

@droid i am sure that if they will provide this ONT in residential area then it might be bottleneck for other customers due to limited bandwidth per OLT hub.
normally per OLT capacity is 1-2 gbps and that is shared with 6-8 customers and if 1 customer takes a gigabit plan then it might choke other users bandwidth😀

Don't know what's running in their mind, for now no such router exist according to them. I tried and choose to let it go. No use in playing hide and seek with them when they're not ready to give it
