Stick to C6 or A6. Not much price difference. Or am I missing something?

TP-Link is good interms of hardware but they have to bring more features in UI which are given by Linksys and Asus routers. The Heavy UI should be optimised a bit to give more features .
I mean custom ROM is a thing but Hardware accelaration goes for a toss

I second @Zexen. Linksys E5600 is a decent router for the price. If you're willing to spend a bit more you should consider D-Link DIR 1960. Both of them are based on the Mediatek MT7621A chipset, but DIR 1960 is AC1900 and has double the flash/ram. Something to consider if you want to flash OpenWrt. It also has a USB 3.0 for you to use it as a media server. It was around 4k a week back, though the prices have increased now.

The range and thoroughput depends on the particulars of the building a great deal. If you've multiple concrete walls separating the the router and the clients, WIFI experience would be bad. It would be ideal if you could place the device at a central location. Also make sure the frequency and the channel you use is not used by your neighbours.
