Hi friends, I a getting BSNL FTTH connection tomorrow and I am in market for a decent router. Till now I had ADSL connection and don't have any prior experience with FTTH. I am getting UTSTARCOM ONT 4842W-I modem with installation and have had shortlisted TP-Link AC1200 Archer C6 and A6 routers by skimming through this forum.
Right now, I am getting TP-Link A6 v2.0 for Rs. 2040 on Flipkart and A6 v3.0 for Rs. 2249 on Amazon. I have placed order for both as I don't know which will be better.
As per info available on net, v2.0 has a internal antenna which v3.0 lacks resulting in little bit drop in range.
v3.0 comes with dual core Mediatek processor, whereas v2.0 comes with single core QUALCOMM processor. Also v3.0 comes with DDR3 RAM instead of DDR2. This results in faster boot, better memory management, less heating and less reboots.
v3.0 also comes with Airtime Fairness feature which according to TP-Link website, Improves network efficiency by limiting excessive occupation.
I want to know if anybody has used both routers in real life and if possible, has compared them?
Plz help me as my both orders will be delivered in three days and I have to cancel one of them, but I don't know which one.
Thanks in advance.

Can anyone explain the reason of choosing a router with FE port with AC1900 rating?
It sounds really stupid to me....Not being rude...sorry just being obvious.
What is use of 1900 mbps and 3x3 mimo when it support max 100 mbps input via ethernet.
AFAIK, 3X3 MIMO does not work in repeater mode.
I still think that c6 is way better....😉

Yep really stupid to comment without reading full specifications. Or maybe you took it as obvious. 😛

@igloo, as per ur recommendation, I had ordered MERCUSYS AC1900 and received it today. Unfortunately, the router has been returned by some flipkart customer previously and has telltale signs of being opened. However router is working flawlessly with BSNL broadband and easily covers 4000 sq.feet area of my ground floor. Boot up time is 25 to 30 seconds. Configuration is browser-based and took 20 secs only due to automatic input detection mode. I am blown away with this router and have never seen such good coverage in past. Thanks for help!
@crashnburn_in, I was sorely tempted to place order again for TP-Link AC1200 Archer A6 v3.0 router yesterday and will receive it on Saturday. I would use it on first floor and will be able to compare it with MERCUSYS AC1900. How is the Boot up time and coverage of ur TP-Link AC1200 Archer A6? Hope by that time, my BSNL FTTH connection will go live as BSNL babus are still in process of finding fault in their lines.
Nice.. Good for you. Want to run some of the SNB tests on your Mercury?
I dont see why boot up time matters if its not really bad. How many times do we plan to boot it up? Transient State vs Steady State. I'd prefer to do the Pro testing from SNB.

so the owner of the newer a6 model... can you check and tell if the router has two holes at the back for hanging it on a wall? c6 does have two holes so it worked out well. i might need to buy another router and i am considering getting the a6 instead of c6 this time around.

thanks. before ordering, i should check if i can cross 100mbps using c6 at that point because if the cable is not doing 100+, replacing the router would be pointless. 🙄

I'm using DIR 1960 at my parents place and at 4k is an extremely good bargain. It has 128mb/256mb flash/ram which satisfy openwrt requirements and more. It has usb 3.0, so can function as a samba/media server pretty well. My only gripe is I wish they had used atheros for wlan but mt76 is pretty ok.

Apart from the health angle with regard to wifi, I wish service providers allow us to increase/decrease the wifi output power & change channels. In my case with jio ftth its not directly accessible with a result that in my bldg there are lots of people on same band/channel which causes lot of interference. Which results lower wifi speeds apart from drip in speeds from the start of the lockdown.
