How safe are Indian cars?

S-presso is probably the worst looking car on Indian roads today.

^ Mahindra KUV100 would like a word

It's well known that most Indian consumers don't give a rat's ass about safety. They would rather have some chrome plastered on the back than an extra airbag

The new i20 starts at £19,000 in the UK and less than half of that in India, some of that difference has to come at the expense of safety

Is Baleno really this bad?

Note: Explicit language.

This is the reason for it

Maruti runs like a lala company in India when it comes to meeting safety regulations. Their primary excuse is that we meet the desi standards. And I imagine Indian government be like... safety standards are a western phenomenon.
Maruti said that such issues “cannot be left to the opinion of any self-proclaimed party.”
Around 6 years ago, the default top end model of i10 Grand Petrol did not have dual air bags. They had an extra 'option' version that added the passenger side bag. Had to pay more to get that. Things have changed a lot now I imagine. Still kind of amazing that it's Tata and Mahindra making safe cars instead of Maruti.

Pretty surprised and disappointed to see Grand i10 NIOS getting 2 stars, NGL. Although I don't like Tata cars' driving experience, I think they're a better option nowadays.

I don't think we can really drive the UK versions of these cars in India. We'll not be able to stay sane when anyone scratches our i20 that costs 18 lacs. Road rage kafi badh jayegi. I can feel it already while thinking about it.

Kuch saalon mei you would have to pay 10 lacs for the i10 top model.
Lol we already do they call it the Nios.

my top end 'option' variant of i10 asta was 5.75 all inclusive 7 years ago. my linea top diesel variant was 8.5L 2-3 years before that. i don't think i am going to (or be able to) buy another car in my lifetime. i saw sonet on the road today. liked it. few years ago, it would have costed me a lot. today i am like, eh, uber hi badiya hai.

Do compare the features of the 2013 model and the one available today. Also, since we're dealing with pollution, and gas prices are always high, we should be seeing more electric vehicles on the road. But again, electric cars cost a lot. I guess we just need to make more money.

Price is no excuse for not providing safer cars. Tata manages 4/5 star safety with a 4.5 lac tiago, 6 lac altroz and 9 lac nexon. So does mahindra with a 10 lac xuv3oo.

Hyundai and others are foreign companies, doesn't that increase the prices?

Altroz is supposed to be competing with Baleno, but it's just ugly. Have heard that it's a good car, but if you can get over how it looks. Not sure if it also has to be revved to take off in the first gear like Tiago.

KUV100 would still be ugliest with its stupid hand brake mechanism.
