Just out of curiosity , was thinking if Starlink internet will work in India as they are satellite based if I buy the subscription for the same . It is running its Open Beta program for users and people in the USA have been trying it out
This guy has installed it . Its very easy Plug and Play

Not yet, once they launch more satellites and gets all regulatory approvals for India, it should.

Right now its pretty expensive, 500 USD upfront cost, 99 USD/month rental.

I mean 7500 is very costly . But there are some villages where in people want to take a single connection and sharing it for like 10 users . It will be cost effective over there . Like this is not feasible but if I somehow grab a US satellite unit of this and place it in India which is having a valid subscription running , will it work or does Govt have to open spectrum thingy something like that ?

i don't think starlink covers India yet. It's just a small section of US and Canada

Considering how much satellites have to be launched for this and how much junk it creates when satellites fail, I kinda hope they don't cover outside US.

Oh I thought the whole satellite constellation is active🙂. I am very curious to know how it performs in India if many people in the villages buys it when it launches(if it launches with decent price). Do you think it will get congested at some point of time ?

I doubt this will be a success. Atleast not for India. Considering its a shared resource. It will face same tikona kind of fate.

With cheap labour and small demography we have which can be easily covered in less than satellite launch amount.

Talking of pricing I remembered when VSNL started internet in 1995, it cost 10k for a year . Since it was dial-up, the telephone bill was additional. We had it in our office & still remember how people behaved on seeing it😁
