Completely endorse what @Adithya has written. It is indeed a rabbit hole. I am some one who have been flashing since gingerbread days and have even maintained some private builds for my devices. It is fun when you're young and have spare time ironing out the kinks ( and you're someone like me who enjoys the process). But in real life you will have little to no time doing this and at that time you'll appreciate a phone that just works like its supposed to do out of the box.

Imagine going out with your friends and taking a selfie. "Guys wait my Gcam is processing, it'll be sharper than stock camera trust me."

I won't be going for custom roms atleast till the device is supported. @Adithya yup agree, setting up roms have become quite difficult even since I would flash since Kitkat... man those days were like a breeze, short and simple.
I don't intend to use Magisk either, for what I believe, it's primarily used for Xposed mods or SafetyNet. Not my cup of tea.
All I am trying to do is future proofing that in the eventuality(0.0001%)of setting up custom rom without rooting, is magisk necessary to use banking app/financial app. Flashing/rooting was fun back in the days for me, not anymore. If apps won't work, no custom rom for me. 🙂
But I belive a debloated MIUI should hold good for atleast 3-4 years, right? Unless, Xiaomi deliberately slows it down would be a different case.

But poco , mi have a very good developer support , and they have given all the source code so that developers can work own it, due to this bugs can be less, as the majority of bugs which are harder to rectify is due to the hardware mismatch where source code is not available as happens with some Samsung custom rom builds.

Still its upto personal preference if u want to have a rom with zero issues choose the stock one , otherwise choose custom roms if u have time to do some tinkering, and would like to extract more perfomance out of your phone. But remember without rooting flashing custom rom only is not a very good option..

Almost all manufacturers slows down the phones. I think a case was registered against Apple even for deliberately slowing down the phones.

That was to save "battery life" for old weared out batteries according to Apple. 🤷‍♂️

Xiaomi can mess up with updates too.

The last one for Redmi Note 5 11.0.2.0 has horrible lag issues. Confirmed by pretty much everyone, my friend even switched phones.

While the Chinese variant got 11.0.3.0 whose changelog said: "Fixed lags" which the Indian one never got. And I've tried both, the Chinese one is significantly smoother with almost 0 lags.

Since then I've unlocked, flashed an older MIUI 10 and relocked. We use our phones through apps anyway and those work fine. Camera sucks tho, but meh.

There is Xiaomi.eu ROM for almost every xiaomi device and it gets updated with every major release. you can try that, they usually are Global roms with all the bloatware and ads pre-removed so most definitely everything should work sans bloatware and MIUI crap.

@horz Xiaomi.eu is based on Chinese MIUI, they add gapps and skin it to look more like global. They won't support Poco M2 because it's MTK. Those are easy to brick and only a service center's Mi account can unbrick it.

They also won't support India only devices, like M2 Pro.

Are you Manu from Imserba @manu1991 ?
Yup, I would either opt for Lawnchair or CPL. Heard X3 had battery issues due to 120Hz. Is it true?

How wold you guys rate MIUI in terms of optimisation and performance for general use? It left a bitter taste when I had Mipad and it was far from optimised. Flashed custom rom over that to get it running. MIUI was horrible when it first arrived with Redmi 1S.
General use would include fluidity, stutter and lag free, youtube. No games and other heavy tasks.
@nathan_ad How is the haptic motor on m2 pro? Does it stand out amongst the others or is it just a hype. One of my primary reason would be this.
How is the weight distribution, being 209gms? Is it really heavy that it can be used to hit someone? How's the in-hand feel?

Depends on the device mostly. Since 12 they have been getting even heavier. I've used MIUI 12 on a poco F1 it's good. It's nothing like stock Android, background apps will be closed unless you lock it, notifications are fine they arrive on time, smart replies and stock Android things are not there. Battery life will be excellent.

Is it really heavy that it can be used to hit someone?
Ok what is your use case? If that's important get an rog phone 😜

Lol... I have an average sized palm. To add to the weight is its glass finish. So I wanted to know if prolonged use can cause some injury or numbness. Heard many youtubers gripe about it so wanted to know.

@horz @Adithya I have poco f1 and 2 weeks back I received an update to miui 12. Post update, the phone is struck in boot loop and it won't turn on. A perfectly working phone now useless
I took it to service centre and they tried to change volume/power buttons , but no luck. They said, I need to replace the motherboard, which I rejected.

Do you have any pointers or good source on how to resolve this or flash the ROM?
