Got Excitel Fiber in East Delhi

Backstory: I have been a user of excitel ethernet for almost 4+ years, while it has been smooth sailing there have been few hiccups like random packet loss (once a few months). I called my LCO to upgrade me to the fiber they told me than they have written down my name and will let me know (since they are doing upgradations as first come first serve). Almost 15 days passed with no luck I decided to take a different route.

So On 30th October signed up on the excitel website for a new connection, got a call explaining the plans and stuff, the lady told me only 2000 ONU available, rest will have a waiting time and told me I will get a callback from the local partner.
31st October
  • 11am, got a call from a local partner, told me 500 rs installation charge will be levied, told me no such thing on the website, tried to haggle saying I can get connection ASAP if they let off the installation charge, he agreed, sent him docs over WhatsApp. This guy told me 750 ONU is available.
  • 3pm, people came to install fiber, they just dropped fiber to the location where I want the ONU and tied it to a poll nearby, and left.
  • 5pm, installation guys came bought the tiny Syrotech ONU (which is in bridge mode by default, a welcome change).
  • 5:50pm, installation done, connection up and running, I recharged with 3+1 100mbps WFH plan which has 125 Mbps speed and cost are Rs. 2400 + 750 for ONU security.

Did a few speedtest as always getting 135 Mbps download and 180 uploads on the connection to almost all the local servers over Wi-Fi. Don't think there is congestion on my local line as speedtest starts from 300+mbps while coming down and settling to the above-mentioned speeds.

Router: TP-Link Archer A7
Wi-Fi: Unifi AP AC Lite.

Tests are done on my phone, as sadly my 6+ year old laptop tops out at 102-104 mbps with even 5Ghz.
Speedtest: I am surprised with the results tbh, wasn't expecting these good speeds. It is multi connection speedtest but still.

Looks good, I've been contemplating about switching from Powernet to Excitel. Speeds vary so much from LCO to LCO I'm kinda confused about paying for yet another install.

Though Excitel is dirt cheap.
 
You can try haggling, technically they shouldn't take any installation charge. That's how I got mine reduced to zero.

Yup, it is cheap no doubt.
 
I'm also expecting Excitel to be first "low cost" ISP to provide IPv6. I'm looking more info on this but Excitel rep on here hasn't been active for months.
 
Excitel is good for 100-150mbps plan only imo.
That happens when you decide to use EPON instead of GPON with overselling or i say over splitting.
 
Yup true that. I tried upgrading but don't think they really care about that, so I decided to apply for a new connection and let my old ethernet one die-off (recharge was ending in 2 days so it was fine).
From what I guess is that they get a kick-back for every successful customer onboarded, so even they try to give out new connections. Worth a shot though, worst case it won't work.

An update to this (since I can't edit the original post now).
The laptop is capable of 400+Mbps speed over 5Ghz (realized after running a speedtest in college). The reason for low speeds at home is the distance between the router and laptop, tried moving it to the same room as the router and got max speeds (about 135Mbps up and down).
 
Looks like something is messed up from the past few days.
Getting random ping spikes in CSGO. Goes from 30-35ms ping to 200ms and then comes down. No loss is shown though.

MTR to 1.1.1.1, shows loss of more than 20% sometimes 40%+, same goes for 162.159.192.1

Have raised a ticket but I don't have much hopes from excitel. Most likely will resolve itself in a few days.


EDIT: On further checks this looks like a Mumbai only issue. Since pings to SGP, heck even UK are solid w/o any loss.

Yes, something is really messed up even I am seeing high ping losses and even disconnections with 1.1.1.1. And my public IP showing from Hyderabad whereas I am in Delhi.

162.159.192.1 is no longer going through extreme ix like earlier smh
