Hello guys,

So the LCO has layed out the cables and provided me an ONU Router.
The actual connection will start tomorrow, so I'm very excited.

What I'm going to write next might sound as a 'complaint', but trust me, it's not!
I'm just curious, really curious...

So, before opting the BSNL FTTH, most of you guys (the internet people) had suggested me to buy a good quality, separate wifi router.
I thought BSNL does not provide a router, that's why I am being told to buy a separate router.
But to my surprise, they have given me an OPTILINK OP XONT 71110N ONU Router.

Now my question is, why everybody suggested me to buy a separate router? (I have bought Tp-Link archer a6)
Is it because routers provided by BSNL are of low quality?
Is it because BSNL router's coverage is very less?
Is it because there are very limited options to configure in the BSNL router?

I've couple of other queries now.
Should I use my internet
1. with this Optilink router only
2. or should I use optilink + TP-Link router simultaneously?

Also, will you please tell me what are the pros and cons of both 1st and 2nd scenario?
Thanks in advance.

Congrats on getting the connection. The actual struggle starts henceforth😂😂
The reason why we ask you to get extra router is, to put your ONT into Bridge mode, and make use of the superior firmware of your TP-Link router. The inbuilt firmware is very basic and does not have much features. But imagine if your Archer C6 as an ONT... it is just like adding an optical port to your Archer c6.

You should use the router in bridge mode. It obviously has no cons, except that you cant access ONT, but it also has a workaround so you can know if actually your PON light is off or not, when you loose connection.

Anyways, enjoy!

well it makes your browsing more reliable and smooth, and since you have it, why not use it? bridging is easy anyways

Yes, I'll use it.
I'm sure it would be far better than the BSNL supplied Optilink router.
By the way, if I've to use a DNS address like Google, opendns, cloudflare etc, where am I supposed to put the DNS address?
In the optilink Router, in TP-Link router or in both the routers?

oya oya!
but i can access ont even while using archer c6.......

Right now my internet is configured through ONU Router + TP-Link Router with these settings.
If I want to use it in bridge mode, do I only need to change the mode from route to bridge?
Or do I need to make any other changes also?

Mask your details, you are letting the entire world know your user id details.

Yes, you need to change from route to bridge and also disable DHCP.

In TP-Link
Advance->Internet-> PPPoE-> Secondary connection give ip as 192.168.10.2.

You are good to go.

Thanks for informing, but I thought sharing user just a user ID would not be a security threat.
Anyway, I will delete the photo, as I got the answer.
Thanks again.

Update :
I was getting only 40-45mbps on WiFi (95+mbps on ethernet), then I changed from B+G+N to G+N, and now I'm getting 95-105mbps speed on WiFi 🤣
But please note, that along with the wifi band, I have also changed the channel width to 40MHz and wifi channel to 11
