Some questions related to Airtel FTTH

After much dilly-dallying, I finally decided to opt for an Airtel Xstream fiber connection. I have some queries and would be glad if existing fiber users could help me with these.

1. I will be going for Ru799 plan initially for 3 months to avail the free installation cost. So after expiry of this 3 month period, will the next recharge be again for 3 months? Can I get it changed back to one month rental after some period like 6 months or so?
2. Can anyone tell the installation procedure? Also Initial payment should be done before or after installation.
3. Payment should be made in cash or online payment?
4. How to ensure that the cable they are setting up is fiber only and not copper. I have heard that Airtel is very notorious into tricking users. In case if they are not giving fiber do I have the right to refuse the connection? Will there be any penalties levied?
5. I know this depends on feasibility but do we get an option to select which CPE we want- Huawei or Nokia.

On their Xstream website Airtel Broadband two buildings next to mine show "Fiber." So I asked in Airtel store, they mentioned that Fiber label means fiber is available in building, no one has taken yet. I also asked the sales guy who confirmed that Airtel has a connection there. So I am assuming that fiber should be available in my area. But I also know in Airtel, the left hand won't know what the right hand is doing. Lot of miscommunication between the guys on ground and those in store.
I just don't want to renew my existing connection and end up with two connections..
Will writing to the nodal area help fast track issue? I would give them 10 days from date of payment and then pursue this matter.

Looking to get Airtel XStream Fiber through LCO at one of our places. So have a few queries.

1. Whether Airtel gives their "Xstream Streaming App" free of cost with the Airtel FTTH connections?. If not, what will be the tariff?
2. What is their FUP for 100mb/s or 200mb/s plans?. 3.3TB?.
3. Does data used for the Xstream app gets counted for FUP or not?
4. What will be the installation charge and ONU charge?.
5. How many meters of cable will be free?
6. Whether the Xstream box will be given free of charge or is it paid?.

1. Yes, It's free.
2. Same. 3.3 TB
3. Yes. Counted.
4. Free if opted for 3 or more months ARP. else, 1000rs.
5. No charges, They would provide connection only if it's feasible and the distance varies from 100m to 125m. and sometimes goes till 200m.
6. Free for use. with a refundable security deposit of 1500rs. but Minimum 12 Months of active usage for a minimum subscription pack of Rs 360 per month. is required for the refund on return.

Finally, after all the hard work, patience and toiling for almost a month, got the Airtel Xstream BB connection.
Got the Nokia G-2425G-A router. Busy with speed tests... feels amazing switching from 7mbps to 100 mbps.😀
Learnt a valuable lesson... No matter how many complaints you raise, threaten the higher authorities, all your work is going to be done by the ground authorities. So have good contacts with them, coz they will come to you when things go bad.

I can relate to your completely. Experienced the same in Powai - as I shared earlier.

In our case, was more about getting Airtel Fiber versus existing Local ISP's cable broadband

The plan rates you are subscribing to should be same. Remaining charges like extra fiber deployment beyond permitted, minimum ARP(this varies from location to location) would be the key variables.

@Tejas01 what has been your expereince after using airtel fiber for 15 months? How is the fault addressal? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

@TheBrainiac12 I didn't use it in the previous month since I am out of town, but for the 14 months, I have nothing but praise. Downtime is minimal and issues are resolved at the earliest. There was only once when the fiber was cut. It got resolved the next day.
I would say the experience will vary from region to region. I was in Mumbai so I expect them to offer top notch service. But that may not be the case at other tier 2,3 cities.
Given the competition, I would pick Airtel over Jio despite the higher costs. The premium's worth it. Some people like to cheap out on pricing with Jio and then complain about poor service. You get what you pay for, EoD. Else change your ISP.
