After much dilly-dallying, I finally decided to opt for an Airtel Xstream fiber connection. I have some queries and would be glad if existing fiber users could help me with these.

1. I will be going for Ru799 plan initially for 3 months to avail the free installation cost. So after expiry of this 3 month period, will the next recharge be again for 3 months? Can I get it changed back to one month rental after some period like 6 months or so?
2. Can anyone tell the installation procedure? Also Initial payment should be done before or after installation.
3. Payment should be made in cash or online payment?
4. How to ensure that the cable they are setting up is fiber only and not copper. I have heard that Airtel is very notorious into tricking users. In case if they are not giving fiber do I have the right to refuse the connection? Will there be any penalties levied?
5. I know this depends on feasibility but do we get an option to select which CPE we want- Huawei or Nokia.

Thank you for reading this..

Here in my tier 3 city of Uttar Pradesh where there is no concept of societies, all ISPs use electricity poles for their purpose. I haven't had faced downtime since the installation but one of my friend who lives in a monkey infested area faces a 3-4 hour downtime every 2 weeks. But that's acceptable.
Airtel's services are really great TBH considering that it's a really small city and they have over 800 subscribers in a short span of 3 months after launch.

Hello I have few questions . Can you share some information? In which UP tier 3 city you took airtel connection and how much the population there. Does airtel franchise gave you connection or direct from airtel.

So a strange thing happened. The post will be a bit lengthy so please bear with me.

I was in touch with a Airtel representative(seems like a sales rep) for my airtel connection. I had asked him to send his technical representative to explain how the airtel fiber would enter the society from outside so that other members won't make a fuss about it later on.
After almost a month, he told me we won't be able to send the person until he gets the NOC from society.
This was the weird part. It's not as if it would take a year for the tech person to explain the wiring, just 5 mins that's it. And it is only for their safety just to ensure Airtel won't dig at wrong place, so their wiring and labor go to waste.
Did this happen with you guys? I mean is Airtel trying to hit it's own foot.
The only option now would be to give him permission through the NOC doc and if airtel fails to satisfy the requirements, revoke it.
And it's not that Airtel is going to give connection immediately.. like they have already lost most of its customers to cable net(hathway).
There is no place nearby where I could check about Airtel underground wiring so that I could get an idea.
Turning out to be a PITA affair!!

@Tejas01 - I have some experiences here.

Ours is a single tower society (20 floor) and it had Airtel ADSL connections for long time.

In May/Jun of this year, learnt that in a nearby society with 3 towers (~200 mtrs away) Airtel does offer Fiber. And so started following up with local Airtel Sales team for Fiber Connection in our building too.

It took few weeks to convince them to visit our area. What we did was that 4-5 people from society grouped together and expressed interest to the Sales Person / Manager over course of some 10-15 days. Post that he arranged for a technical team's visit for layout planning, cost estimation etc. And then Sales team got budget approved in another 1 weeks,

Ironically, in our case, all material for underground wiring from the next door building to our building was procured, labour arranged and work was triggered but at last min. when they were digging road (to cross the wire underground small road 8-10 mtrs wide) - the other building's society raised objection saying no approval and it is creating traffic etc (all false claims). And then due to the usual bureaucracy - some 10 days were lost to get internal approvals - I still can't believe it happening in Mumbai!!

Anyways, finally after some 45 days since initial agreement with Sales guy - ours was first connection with Airtel Fiber. They upgrades were slow as not really priority for Sales guy and also ONTs were in shortage.

Experience: tried escalating via Social Media but there was not much response. Got lead for Sales Manager's lead but person was not interested. So at end - it all boiled down to the Area Sales Manager

I feel you mate... When I applied from Airtel site, they told me fiber is available for your pincode, not locality. Also, my cousin who first approached the chairman (my dad) for permission has now adopted Wait and Watch approach. So now leading a lone battle.
I think this expression of interest must be what he must be insisting upon((NOC document.))
So all the expenses regarding digging, laying conduits was borne by Airtel, right?
So did you raise your issue with Area Sales manager? How did you get hold of him?
Though I am sceptical about Airtel giving connection as there are no one right now apart from me. But atleast once the infrastructure is laid, I am sure some people will.definitely hop in.
Ironically, the road was dug 3-4 days ago to lay underground gas pipes for my neighbouring building. If they were active , they wouldn't have need permission from BMC for digging.
Let's see.. I am supposed to get a call about how to fill the form. I will give permission for now. When the technical team arrives and if everything is satisfactory as per chairman then good..

It's kinda baffling to see such problems in a big city with societies. In small cities, they won't give two s*its for anybody opposing anything unless someone goes for a legal route (which no body goes). Wiring is pole to pole which has it's own downsides in monkey infested area. I didn't had any misfortune with it yet.
