Airtel XStream Fiber
After much dilly-dallying, I finally decided to opt for an Airtel Xstream fiber connection. I have some queries and would be glad if existing fiber users could help me with these.

1. I will be going for Ru799 plan initially for 3 months to avail the free installation cost. So after expiry of this 3 month period, will the next recharge be again for 3 months? Can I get it changed back to one month rental after some period like 6 months or so?
2. Can anyone tell the installation procedure? Also Initial payment should be done before or after installation.
3. Payment should be made in cash or online payment?
4. How to ensure that the cable they are setting up is fiber only and not copper. I have heard that Airtel is very notorious into tricking users. In case if they are not giving fiber do I have the right to refuse the connection? Will there be any penalties levied?
5. I know this depends on feasibility but do we get an option to select which CPE we want- Huawei or Nokia.

Thank you for reading this..

yes tenure can be changed anytime even after 2 days of activating connection,
initial payment needs to done at time of filling digital caf with sales team,
payment needs to be done by any card or upi on their provided link via sms
if option of fiber is available in ur area then why they will give u copper if they cant give fiber then money will be refunded to source where ur connection not needs to be installed in any way
option of Huawei ont is now limited most of places only has Nokia now

I installed an Xstream connection a few weeks back, so here is my answer to your queries,

1. After 3 months, you can either continue with the ARP plan or move to monthly rental. I guess the monthly rental will be activated
if the next ARP recharge is not done within the due date.
2. The ARP payment should be made before installation.
3. Payment should be made online via a payment link sent to your registered mobile number by the airtel sales team.
4. One of my friends has refused the connection and raised a refund request after the installation team said that only VDSL is possible in his location. But it is better to ensure that you are getting fiber to avoid the hassle of getting the payment refunded.
5. I guess this depends on the availability of CPEs with your installation team. I got a Nokia ONT, not sure if there is an option to opt for Huawei.

Regarding ONT, I got the Nokia G-2425G-A. The range of this model is pretty good and is stable without any reboot problems unlike the G-140WF.

You could ask for the G-2425G-A if they only have Nokia options. If you want to use your own router, better ask for the Huawei but they are not available in most places right now.

Sad news.... Tried applying through Airtel app. After filling the details, it says no fiber in your area. 🙄🙄

4. You can always check the cable which is being used for installation.. I dont think airtel will stoop so low by tricking users in this way. There is always a difference between VDSL & FTTH. Routers used are different. You can easily make out the difference. Check out the imprint on the cable

5. You never get the option of deciding the routers, It depends on their available stock.
The installation team claimed that they no longer offer Huawei routers. So, its Nokia all the way.. router configurations are done through the app.

Open the html code using inspect element and search for "fieldset" in the code. There would be two instances of it. Delete both of these attributes and you should be able to change the settings.

When I try to save my settings, it says: The normal user do not have permission to do this!

So I got a call from Airtel saying that FTTH is now available at my pincode. They took the address and told them I want Ru799 plan for three months.
I have two queries.
1. How long does it take for the sales team to contact me/come to me after taking my address? More specifically in Mumbai.
2. The lady told me they would require docs for verification. I told her Aadhar has both identification and address proof, but she told that you will have to give electricity bill as a proof. Strange. Have you guys encountered this scenario? She did mention that you can ask the sales team hinting that she herself was not sure about it.
Any other thing I should be looking into?

I will keep updating this thread so that fellow members who are interested in getting the connection can benefit.

1. A guy will come for verification of documents. He will initiate the process and will send you a link through which you have to pay the advance. They will probably contact you at the earliest possible.

2. In my case, I gave only my voter ID. Nothing else. One ID is enough.
