Lucknow people need help - Jio Fibre vs Airtel xstream Fibre

ACT Fibrenet
Friends - my apologies for a long and detailed post, but I thought its essential to pass on complete message.
I have been an airtel copper broadband user for 4 years, paid Rs 850 p.m. for 8 mbps. Disconnected in June 2020 and took Act 100mbps.
Act Fibrenet: Pros: working fine for me, consistent speed (20-30 mbps on 2.4 ghz with repeater as my workstation is some 50 feets from Act router. Cons: with 2 outage in 4 months, I had to sweat hard to get them resolved. Nov to March is busiest period of my currently WFH job and bit worried for a similar outage.

Airtel xstream: Applied 2 times in their 1 family plan, as we use all airtel SIMs and DTH, so my 200 mbps connection was effectively coming at Rs 1000 (with GST). Since their Junction (Fiber access Termination Blue color) box is about 150 mtrs away had asked for a box near premises but they have denied the same. Pros: Very reliable connection per reviews, although I faced issues with copper line in past. Will be ideal for my all day conference calls type work. Cons: Arrogant network infra team, not willing to install for a 50+house society whereas Jio is giving 1 box per 4 houses. This is only deal-breaker for Airtel to me

Jio Fibre: Will be operational around Diwali. The overhead cables used in my locality are top notch, and the contractor has laid then tight with Iron hinges. Some users in Lucknow told that speeds are consistent with no downtime, although latency is an issue. Pros: Great infrastructure, prepaid. Cons: slightly costly, especially compared to Airtel in my case.

Please help me decide - Which one should I opt, Airtel vs Jio. Alternately, should I keep using ACT? My usage is work related, so preferably no downtown, pings/latency is a non-issue, data usage 100 - 150 GB per month. See below for Airtel junction Blue Box. Thanks all in advance for your responses🙂

I am not from Lucknow but if Airtel fiber is available at your place you should not even think of Jio. Jio has higher latency and connectivity to many Europen locations has become pathetic now.

Jio fiber seems pretty reliable, good pings and no speed drops. I've been using it for 40 days now, it was down once in the whole city and resolved in a few hours. The only real negative I would say is CGNAT. Prepaid is a really good advantage imo.

It should be noted here that most of new ISP provide ipv4 behind CG-NAT only, as far as I know only BSNL and Airtel are the providers providing public ipv4 addresses and other are CG NAT only

ACT provided public IP when I had it, now there are reports of it moving on CGNAT. Not ISPs’ fault though, but still some people might need it

This is how bad Jio's connectivity to certain regions of Europe is.

Agreed my friend, people vouch for Airtel's reliability. The only concern here is my colony is a housing board area, not a multi storey building. Since the junction box is 150 mtrs away, signal drops may be experienced (although Airtel team denies it) and any fault in wire from box to my home will take time to detect and resolve. Had I got a junction box inside 50 mtrs from my premises (like Jio), wouldn't have any dilemma, had gone for Airtel.

@lucifer I don’t see any issue

Is it not that they provide static IP on payment. I use static IP on payment.

@mayanksingh24 You should take Airtel and not jio.
Since you zoom (you didn’t tell that in your chat) the speed to international servers of jio is very slow and the latency is high so your video calling will suffer. Our mam also took jio fiber 100 Mbps one (Still there is a lot of delay in what she says and most of the time it shows poor network connection (red signal).

Lucknow user chiming in. Use both Airtel and Act in a load balancing setup.

Stay away from Jio. There are better options in Lucknow.

@Gaurav_add where do you reside? Per Jio reviews, I think latency issue is area specific. My folks in Lucknow and Gurugram do not have similar issues, while for some others, this is a real big issue. FYI, I use Microsoft Team's for calls.

Thanks for chiming in. Both Airtel and Act will be costly for me, especially that I would have to go to Gurugram in another 4-6 months for my regular office work. Btw, which are other better options (Tachon, Sikka, Exitel)
Anyone having Airtel connection here, where junction box is 150-200 mtrs away and connection comes through that long drop cables? My research indicates Airtel installs boxes on road facing locations and provide cables for interior locations.
