Installation:
The connection is provided through LCO. They route the fiber from the nearby cell towers where Airtel has backhaul.

Installation charges of Rs. 1000 were paid in cash against receipt to the LCO team, post installation. No other charges.

Have opted for the 499 plan for now. Paid ~1500 online to cover for ~80 days of usage, to avail of the free router.

LCO installation team is seriously overworked and was bone tired when they came for installation at ~10 in the night.

Review:
Speeds are generally 10 - 20 % over the promised 40 Mbps (both upload and download), tested for servers worldwide. This is unlike my Jiofiber connection where international speeds are quite poor. Pings are 10-20% better on Airtel.

The router has above average range over 5GHz. 2.4GHz range is average. Overall the range is somewhat better than Jio's router, but that may have to do with the orientation as well (horizontal vs vertical).

No landline for now as confirmed by Airtel.

Overall initial impressions are satisfactory.

Cross posting from the Airtel Jammu thread:

However, do note that Jiofiber and Bharat Fiber have separate operational areas in Jammu city and in 99% of the city, they do not compete. Somewhat similar situation in Srinagar as well, though there may be some overlap.

This remains true in Srinagar as of now. Some tacit understanding between Jio & Airtel.

@aatuif I don't think there's an understanding. Jio came before, airtel being a late entrant is targeting areas uncovered by Jio as that is likely to have more potential customers. Eventually they will both expand. Even in my city, airtel started in areas not yet covered by Jio. My street has Jio but Airtel is also coming as told by the sales guy and the LCO. Airtel was very quick to cover areas without Jio's presence. And those areas are also being covered by Jio now.

The opinion is based on my experience with Jio.

At a locality close to where I live, Jio installed fibre about two years back. However, Jio didn't expand out of that locality in the last two years despite having infrastructure in place & a lot of users pleading with them to come over since the only other alternative was the patchy BSNL ADSL.
I again inquired from Jio a few days back, and they said they have no plans to expand out of that locality even over the coming 8-12 months. Airtel is meanwhile aggressively eyeing the area surrounding that locality and with the 24x7 work schedule, I am sure they will be there in less than a fortnight.

But yes, eventually, they will overlap. In ten years, maybe.

Also, there are no RWAs in Srinagar to play spoilsport. No flats. Everyone has his own house. So ROW issues in expansion are discounted.

Lol not in 10 years. I don't think such an arrangement is going on. Jio might not be expanding for some other reason, you never know. In my area, all are present, airtel, jio, bsnl ftth and adsl. All are competing against each other. Maybe the LCO is creating problem for Jio, and airtel is partnering with LCO. Are Jio cables underground in your area? LCOs often create problems for any outsider, they are monopoly loving mafias at some places. Cutting cables of others and employing local goons
