BNSL recently pushed for a minor change which I believe is going to be immensely popular for decades-long customers of BSNL landline and xDSL broadband customers : The ability to migrate to Bharat Fibre (FTTH) while retaining your existing landline numbers.

It immediately becomes glaringly obvious how this is going to change the game for BSNL. The franchisee model obviously has its demerits but the merits certainly outweigh, considering it really is the only way our trusted national pride can continue to survive in this highly competitive market. Broadband penetration is increasing in India at a pace never seen before, and while that's amazing, one of the biggest hurdles BSNL was facing was that customers were unwilling to let go of their landline numbers which they might have had for at least 2 decades.

There is albeit one catch however: you can do this transition to BF only if your landline connection has been migrated to the NGN switching at the exchange level.

Tl;Dr My intention through this post is to raise awareness, but also to enquire if anyone can give more details.
Particularly about how to know if our landlines (and local BNSL exchange) have completed their migration to the NG switched network?

We have asked in our exchange (Kerala) to migrate our phone number to the ftth connnection, they said such a thing has rolled out in Delhi and all, they'll inform us when it reaches here.

How to do it? Is it available to do it on selfcare because I dont see the option?

So BSNL has not begun rolling out this feature in its biggest circle yet? That is really frustrating. This process was commenced in 2015.

How is it possible, I thought all the landphones are connected with the ngn already, circuit switching has been phased out isn't it

No. There is still a lot of work left in certain parts of many districts. It's just hard to understand how BSNL works. Almost obvious that their hands are being tied up by bigger players/factors. This work was scheduled to be completed by Dec 2017, and almost 3 years later, still a lot of work left to be finished.
They haven't published any official reports yet about the work that has been completed, nor how much is left to be done.
Initially it was planned in 5 phases. Only they know at which phase they are right now.

Saw the news 3 days ago. My landline is still active but line is dead. Now the questions becomes if they can migrate to FTTH what happens to the FTTH number. Can they activate the old number on the same FTTH connection and we can keep both?
Questions questions 🤔.

Okay so an update to this thread: In my area BSNL has not started the process yet, but they optimistically gave me a timeline of 6 months. Yeah, it didn’t optimise [idk if it’s a word] me much.
Long story short: they issued me a new landline number from their 29xxx voip series with pan-national free calling and gave a 50% discount on my existing landline (old number) till the migration is completed. They did it as a goodwill gesture since the migration isn’t finished to the NGN switch.

Both Chinese companies (Huawei and UTStarcom) have been black listed. I wonder now how long it’ll take for the existing switches to be replaced and a new contractor assigned. Possibly better half of a decade is my best guess.
