That is a VDSL or vfiber connection not real fiber. On VDSL, upload is capped at max 10Mbps and in real life is around 8.

Hello,

I recently applied for Airtel Fibre line with following details -

The sales representative informed me that after a monthly charge of 499 (excl tax), no other charge needs to be paid for using airtel xstream box and wifi. I can even watch live TV via xstream app which comes free with my plan. for other OTT services, I have to buy plan separately. I was Ok with this and went ahead with connection.

Now the Wifi team visited and installed the broadband, however there is no clue about the airtel xstream box and the customer care is hiding citing reasons of Covid-19. Somehow I got hold of one senior person from DTH team, and they informed that I was provided with false information and apart from 1500 refundable amount for xstream box, I have to pay installation charges for wire more than 8meter + few box which needs to be installed as part of wiring, along with monthly subscription of 153 for activation of xstream box. Also, I wont be able to watch live tv with airtel xstream box after 3 months.

All in all, Airtel is simply fooling customers with half knowledge Sales team. Initially they act that Airtel Fiber team will do all things, and once your broadband is installed, they dont care about the xstream and other services committed.

The Sales person simply said - Sorry, i was not aware about change in plans and now you have to pay all the extra money to continue services.

"Kudos to wonderful team of Airtel"
Why did you believe the sales person? Always look up all the terms and charges on their website.
Anyway, 499 for broadband is really good. You can’t expect free cable TV as well in that as DTH alone costs around that much.

Can anyone tell me if Airtel charges for wiring or is that included in ₹1000 installation cost? Do they provide WiFi router/modem for free?

Yes, the WiFi router is provided for free. There is no extra wiring charge unless you require some really long distance special wire to be run for you alone. For example if they are already providing connections in your apartment complex or your residential street then there will be no wiring charge.

whom to believe if all the others do is to redirect you to the sales person?

Also what you could grab from the website is yes, they are going to connect fiber and how to find out that on site "Up to 40Mbps" is actually 0.44Mbps? They told ya.. "up to", didn't they?

Similar thing happened to me. I applied for an Xstream fiber 200Mbps connection to replace my 150Mbps Hathway by paying 3.5k upfront as 3 months advance.

They installed V-Fiber 40Mbps plan for Rs.999. Had to call customer care multiple times and wrote many emails to nodal, appellate, 121 and now they are processing refund after reducing around Rs.200 even though I never used a single byte of data.

@Shanmu54321 glad you got your money back. These salesmen of big ISPs are acting like scamsters these days.
but very cleverly that sales guy did not write things about fiber on whatsapp chat
Even if he mentioned fiber, he could still install VDSL because airtel calls it V fiber and he would've blamed your friend for misunderstanding it

why did you allow them to install copper wire when you were promised fiber. should have simply refused them to install.Prospective airtel users should categorically ask if they will install copper connection or not. If the sales team do not reply, it implies that it will be copper only. The linesman/technician will also call before installation. If you ask him, he will clearly indicate whether it is copper or fiver, even if the sales team do not reply specifically or tries to mislead.

I am not blaming you. I simply meant that you can't trust the saled people. I am surprised about the upload though. Most people get at least 10% of the download. I used to get around 10Mbps.

Happened with me when I took You Broadband connection this June.
Sales representative never told me connection would be coaxial cable. When installation guys called me only then I came to know it's not Fiber and refused for installation.

Though idiots took around 20 days to refund via cheque. But I saved myself from a cheap service.
