One place where Airtel lags behind Jio. After all they can't just kill off their DTH business like that
I wonder why they can't just gradually phase it out for IPTV though (i.e. allowing both to coexist for 5-10 years and then let DTH die).
Won't it be cheaper for them in the long run, as well as more competitive?

Probably since IPTV is not exempt from TRAI NCF and channel charges so only the delivery mode would change, not the price the consumers are required to pay. Even Jio uses OTT apps to provide live channels to circumvent this rule, of course on the drawback of longer loading times and non seamless feed. I am no expert but I think DTH setup of theirs is a fixed cost and so they are unwilling to move ahead

@waterloo_sunset JioTV+ is like a collection of content from the other mentioned apps. It has Live channels, some channels open in their respective apps (like star channels open in Hotstar) and others open within JioTV+. It makes channel surfing easy and places in categories like news, entertainment etc.

Overall it can definitely replace DTH imo.
u can install jiotv+ in airtel Xstream fiber network also , i did in my mi 4k box, all the contents that work on 399 jio fiber plan will work here, like few free live channels or channels opening in other ott apps. contents that work in 999 jio plans will give a message upgrade your jio fiber plan

Infra would be much cheaper for them tho.
