Red light is a standby mode where is it ready to be used. Just like a mobile phone when you lock the screen. During the period when you screen is locked your phone manufacturer can deploy updates for the software or let say play store deploy updates.Netflix has arrived for me.
pretty weird.
i turned off the STB it was on standby mod red light was on.
It turned green in the middle of the night and started blinking. I turned on the tv and saw update was in process.
So jio can turn the STB on and trigger updates.
thats scary , i am getting rid of this shit
I hope you don't use a phone cause that is way more scarier /sNetflix has arrived for me.

My phone dose not install update by itself. Like a good dog it asks for my permission 😀I hope you don't use a phone cause that is way more scarier /s
You have to learn that . Pressing power button in android box is locking screen.Hi all ,
I understand that update works on background, that is totally fine. Like in phone and PC updates get downloaded in background and prompt for an install. This is normal.
but in my case
STB was off in sleep mode.
It turned on and installed the update by itself.
like imagine you kept your windows laptop in sleep mode and it turns on to download and install updates.
that same things happened here.
I am completely fine when updates are downloaded in background and ask for permission to install them.
i am long time firestick user update always ask for my permission to install any update.
Imagine if customers had control over this then we could still have Access to android settings.
Maybe you guys are okay with your STB turning on by itself and installing updates i am not
just an opinion guys.
STBs do not have any "Sleep" mode. They have only "standby" mode. They keep drawing power in standby mode and remain operational on low power. Thats how all STB works, including those given for Cable connections. All STB update software while on standby mode. That's how they are designed. If you want them to "sleep", you need to switch off main power. Switcfhing off main power for both STB and TV also works wonder for your electricity bill.Hi all ,
