I have attached my Hard Drive on the router's USB port. However I cannot seem to access it through either Windows Shared Devices or through Android apps.
While going through the forums here, I found that you had to go in Developer Options and tick off the FTP server thing. However I cannot seem to locate it now. Also DMS server has been greyed out in Router Settings.

I have tried both the FTP and the DMS options. Don't know why, but my FTP connection was never stable, it would disconnect in a minute or so. DMS used to work alright. DMS was enabled by default on my Jio router, and on the client device, a media server called "Jio Media Server" would be visible and through that I could access the hard disk (in the storage folder). However, fast forwarding and rewinding media was a hassle and it just wasn't able to keep up. Finally, I accepted defeat and just connected the hard disk to the USB of my smart TV directly.
