Hi.
I had subscribed to JioFiber few months back, but later discontinued it because of a lot of incompatibilities with my expectations.

However Jio has announced plans which seem way too lucrative to pass around. So I just had a few questions for you guys, and would really love if you could help me out on these.

1. One of the primary reasons I had discontinued Jio Fiber was the inability to set up FTP servers or to access local devices. e.g. I have three laptops (say A, B, C) at home which are usually connected to the internet almost entire time. Within my current network I can easily make the desirable folders available using Windows Sharing Center and access these from any other device. e.g. I can access a Folder on Laptop C from Laptop A over the Wifi. However when using Jio Fiber I could not exercise this option. I did not get into too much detail, but is it the same for you? If it works out for you could you help me fix the problem on my end?

2. I understand that Jio Router has a USB port wherein you can connect to it to access the files on your HDD from any device. However the last time I tried to do that it did not work out. I think Jio had disabled FTP options or something. Has this been fixed?

3. I happen to play CS CZ (Counter Strike Condition Zero) with my friends (yeah a 90's kid). Now I do know that I won't be able to create a server for my friends due to CGNAT and Port Forwarding issues and I'm fine with that. What I wanted to ask was if it is possible to create a LAN CS CZ server and play it with anyone connected to the same router. (My current ISP also has CGNAT, however I can still host a LAN server on it)

4. What kind of VPN do you guys use to circumvent blocked sites. Let's say for instance if I want to download content (videos/ movies/ games) from blocked sites through Internet Download Manager (IDM) which VPN would you recommend me? For browsing and all I use Betternet. But as an extender version of VPN it kinda sucks since it only offers 500MB data per day if set up on a desktop. So what would you suggest?

5. I've seen Netflix being added to the 1499 plan. Does this mean if I subscribe to the 1499 plan, I can avail Netflix services on my Mobile/ Laptop even when on different network (as long as I'm paying Jio Rentals)? Or is it just specific to be used on Jio STB?

I really appreciate if you guys could help me out on these points. Thanks a lot in advance.

I can't answer all your questions, but I can answer the 4th one.
I use Tor browser to access blocked sites. To download torrents, I get the magnet link using Tor browser and then add it to BitTorrent and download it. Seeding is a pain though due to asymmetric upload speeds.

Yes, That'll be possible. I don't have a Jio Fiber router to test but make sure settings like, AP Isolation are turned off, UPnP is enabld and it should just work.

From another thread, Netflix plan is actually the 500 INR one. And you have to use the Netflix app that comes installed on their STB thing which I won't recommend using but your call.

I have PIA Subscription but I don't use it much. I have configured my own VPN with nodes in Mumbai, HYD, SG and that works fine for me. If you are a bit tech savvy, Check out oracle cloud. They are offering 2 free instances forever that have 480mbit uplink(you actually get a little less than that). Install/Configure wireguard on that and just use that. 🙂

1. I haven't tried FTP, maybe someone else could help you with that.
2. I've connected USB drives to playback content, don't see issues there.
3. Again haven't tried this but haven't found any lags while playing on Wi-Fi at least if that helps.
4. Use goodbyedpi to unblock blocked sites. You can also use Tor browser for private browsing. I use ProtonVPN.
5. OTT subscribed via JIO FIBER is accessible only through JIO STB AFAIK.

@bigman91 Hey can you help me out with Point 2? I've connected my HDD to the router, and I can't seem to access it at all. Thanks!

@Arc - Back when sideloading was possible I was able to playback videos using VLC etc via usb. Sideloading isn't possible now but I guess u can view certain photos n vids using jio's gallery app.

@Arc - Yes on stb. No haven't tried wireless connectivity. I doubt there's an option to do that atm except for maybe the Jio remote.

seems to be a LOT less (48 mbps/55 ms from DL) for HYD at least ...did u sign up for 3 accounts with 3 different cards? ...how is the latency/speed to MUM & SG? 😕

@bigman91 Oh so you mean on the STB? By the way any clue if a wireless printer will work flawlessly on JioFiber?
I have been using Brother wireless printer+scanner with Jio Fiber. Works flawlessly. The printer is only able to connect to the 2.4Ghz band of Jio Fiber (but that is the printer limitation I guess), and I have kept it in the same room as the Jio Fiber modem. No connection issues.
