So, does anyone know whether non-Jio mesh devices will work with JioFiber, or are we forced to use only their proprietary stuff which will be useless with any other ISP?

@Dave Mesh depends on a number of factors - and the cheap ones generally only have dual band. Thus, the 5ghz band carries both client data and mesh data, and easily gets choked. The ones you need to get are the triband ones, where there is a dedicated band for the router/satellite to communicate with one another, leaving a 2.4 and 5 ghz band available for client data.
Then there's the matter of what format they support - a/b/g/n/ax, how is their penetration (specially wrt Indian walls), daisy chaining of satellites etc.
Looking at all the stats, found Orbi to the one to get for Indian homes (my house is about 2500 sq ft). 1 router + 1 satellite combo (RBK50), pushes range till my car parking (which is about 20-30 feet away from...
Oh.
Satellite will just reconnect easily. No resync needed unless you reset it. I would recommend connecting the satellite every time you've a firmware upgrade as both the router and satellite get updated separately.

The reason is that I spend a lot of time in one room in the peak summer months. This room has very good coverage some days and rather poor coverage at other times. Rest of the house u

Thank you for the extensive testing. So it seems like the signal from the Orbi is about 20% stronger at close range, 40% stronger in the next room and about 15% stronger at long range. So it could help me out. The reason I wanted to use just one base unit is that during summer we spend a lot of time in one room. This room is about 25 feet from the Jio router. Our house has great coverage and speed throughout but this room has fickle coverage. Sometimes the coverage and speeds are good there and other times for unknown reasons they are mediocre and even bad at times. So I wanted to get a more powerful router which would help here if it were even 25% better with the option of deploying the satellite if needed. After summer we wouldn’t be in that room for long and thus we can stop using the satellite. My question was not about the life cycle of the satellite but whether it could simply be switched on and it would connect easily or if it would require some syncing if we used just the base for a while. Thank you so much for taking the time to investigate and respind.
The last screenshot is about 45- 50 feet away from the router. 2 walls in between, no line of sight.

I bought the same stuff during the sale. I followed Tom's Hardware Guide, which stated that it had the best concrete penetration. Router was in my son's room, with the satellite on the first floor in my room. My son went to SIngapore, so I shifted it to my room. Satellite is in storage! Jio router has been set with ssid off and not visible. I guess that means wifi OFF. Orbi has been set to AP mode. Jio installer asked me not to block the MAC id's i didn't recognise: they belong to maintenance staff! The Orbi definitely improves on the wifi performance of the Jio router.

What about the mesh solution, the Jio people are providing? It is much cheaper.. Though locked to Jio Fiber... How is the performance? Anybody who has used it please comment..

Jio mesh device specs list 'Wi-Fi Alliance EasyMesh' standard. So ideally, any EasyMesh certified mesh device should work with the Jio setup. As of now most device manufacturers have their own standards but I think D-Link has a product (COVR 1102) which is EasyMesh certified. Looks like Jio did good on this one.

Using Orbi (RBK50) with Jio router. Since we cant do bridge, Orbi is in AP mode, and Jio router has all wifi switched. If both are in router mode, it can lead to double NAT issues. Works well, full 500 Mbps on wired, about 350-500 Mbps on Wifi.
I have seen a bridge mode enable/disable setting in Jio centrum, but I haven't tried it. Does it not work?
Also, I'm thinking of getting a mesh system installed, how do you turn off the wifi in Jio router or resolve NAT conflict?
