Airtel Xstream Fiber
Dear All,

I am located in South Delhi, Lajpat Nagar and I recently got upgraded to Airtel Xstream Fiber 300Mbps plan with unlimited download top up.

Since day 1 I have been getting speed issues where during the day speed fluctuates between 60 - 170 Mbps on WiFi and I have seen 300 Mbps only twice and that too at like 6AM in the morning. Yes I am using the 5GHz WiFi option and this connection is through Airtel directly and NO local cable operator involved.

When I spoke to the guy who did the installation he claimed that this is how Airtel Fiber is and even if I pay for 1Gbps this is the best I would get which is total nonsense.

Anyways I have spoken to customer care and they raised a ticket and closed it on their own without doing anything.

Now after discussion with the area manager he is willing to change my router to the Nokia device (earlier it was Huawei) to check if it’s the router has problems.

Can you guys please advise/suggest what should I be doing to sort out these speed issues. I have been checking speed on all sorts of latest devices at home including iPad Pro, iPhone pro MacBook etc. all of them show maximum 170 Mbps however upload is always above 300Mbps.

Really sick and tired of this pathetic service and I’m on the verge of disconnecting it, would really appreciate some help. Thanks

Simply take screenshot of pic of current setting for each field then do whatever you want to do so that if you want to revert to original you have everything with you thats what I have done ✅
Is it possible for me to get him to speak with you for suggestions on things to do?

Considering how much I’ve harrowed the chap, a rapport is an understatement. He’s equally eager to get me off his back. Have called him, he says he’ll try come today. Will bless him with some Gandhian love if he achieves it😉

You don’t even need to pay trust me he will be glad to get you off his back...same story here Airtel guys are so sick and tired of visiting my place everyday for the last 1 week that the area manager himself comes to my place since the last couple of days.

He also brought a sealed Linksys Velop AC 2200 mesh router to my place and connected it to see if the problems are sorted and yes it more or less worked. This is the same device Airtel is giving with 30K annual prepaid plan.

How did they connect the GPON to the Velop. Is the GPon in bridge mode and both routing and WiFi by Velop or is the setup under double NAT

First of all...@Kaku875, your advice was spot on!! An email to the nodal officer got things sorted out. Kudos to you and for all your help!

Lessons learnt/Reasons for drop in speed:

1. An email to the nodal officer complaining of the issue, led to a senior technician coming over to inspect the problem. He knew exactly what to do. So if the local team can’t manage, send an email to the nodal officer in your area. Email id can be found for your area on google. (Shout out to Kaku875 for this suggestion).

2. The senior technician came, and the first thing he checked was what was the power adapter being used on the Huawei modem HG8145V5. It turned out that adapter fit on my modem was a 1 amp, whereas what was needed was a 2 amp!!! Fortunately had the adapter from my old router, and voila..! No data loss anymore.

3. To ensure 5G connectivity, have now configured my Archer A6 in another part of the house, by pulling an Ethernet cable (from outside the building), directly connecting my modem to the router using the Ethernet cable, so no data loss there. Had to get this work done from a third party vendor.

4. Will now connect to the Huawei modem/router or the Archer A6, depending on which part of the house I’m in, so that I can get the 200 mbps speed.
It’s been a struggle past 2 weeks, but hopefully all wiring should get fixed up by tomorrow, ‘cos presently they’re lying loose so I could test it all. Thank you everyone for your help and tips, especially Mohit11, and Kaku875 ofcourse for taking the time out to help. Cheers! And happy streaming.

Yay finally its sorted 😀

Thanks for all the efforts done and listening to us with patience and I can understand the feeling when you are paying for something and not been able to get it.

Anyhow good to see now you are getting true speed and yes thats what I learn from these providers as dealt with most of them when no one listen try Nodal Officer they can move things at pace.

Happy streaming 😀😀
