8 Mbps plan but getting only 3.5 Mbps

Hi, I have been using this connection for 2 months. I was promised 8 Mbps connection under plan 2 GB CUL. I am not getting enough speed. Maximum it reaches to 3.5 Mbps. I am only 1 KM far from the exchange. Following is my line configuration and parameters. I contacted NIB. They said everything is fine at their end. I tried the dial-up mode as well on their recommendation. But there was no gain. Please review the line params.

P.S I am not using a splitter. The lineman didn't install it. Can that be the reason? Do you have any such experience?

You status does show your line is syncing at more than 10mbps. You SNR/Attenuation are the best I've seen. I doubt a splitter would help unless you have a phone on the same line.

Where did you see you're getting 3.5mbps? On wifi or ethernet?

If you're seeing slow speeds on ethernet it's probably your line profile, call their helpline and ask them to change profile. I used to do this by calling 12678 (worked in kerala).

Thanks for your reply @Adithya. The speed went for a toss and became 1.7 Mbps. I raised a complaint and a lot of offices (JTO, SDOP and NIB) involved to solve this. They said they fixed everything they can do but the speed is still 3.5 Mbps maximum before utilizing fup. Sadly I am slowly learning to live with it.

Ah my friend had the same issue, he was on a 10mbps plan getting only 4mbps. Eventually a BSNL engineer themselves said the lines were toast and he should switch to fiber.

But his line rates were actually 4mbps, yours is at 10mbps. That is weird. Have you tried it with a PC connected to LAN?

I had the exact same issue with my line syncing at 9934 Kbps / 438 Kbps when I used
BSNL on the 2 GB CUL plan.

My modem was configured to run on the d.Gmt mode for better sync instead of the
ADSL 2+ mode.

The highest I ever got over various speed tests was 6.76 Mbps on download.
Far from the rated speed of 8 Mbps. This despite a clear line with low attenuation
rates of 12/8 on the downstream/up and a SNR of 18/31 on the downstream/up.

I tried ignoring the ad injection and the redirects for a couple of years, and despite
being friendly with the folks at the NOC, NIB and the exchange, they couldn't
do better. I was advised to switch to BSNL FTTH after getting 5 more users.

All in all, I surrendered the broadband connection while retaining the phone line
this June and switched over to a FTTH connection 50 Mbps (symmetrical) from my
local cable provider. I still have a backup unlimited airtel ADSL 8 Mbps connection
which gives me around 8.8 - 9 Mbps download speeds.

Things are good now. Consider if you can switch to an alternate rather than breaking
heads with BSNL. My BSNL connection was installed in March 2006.

I get 7 Mbps from an 8mbps line from MTNL, exchange less than 1km . We redid the entire wiring to avoid distortions, interference and frequent disconnections and low speeds I used to face. With old cable I got 3.5 Mbps on a 6mbps line.
I used a 2 pair cable and used all of them for internet connection only. Another single pair line for my landline and it faces lot of noise and distortions. Everything was clear from MTNL. So I realised that it really must be the old wire that was causing trouble.
As some pointed out, if you can opt for fiber then go for it. Else get a new pair of wire.
Also, don't go beyond 8mbps. It won't support on ADSL. I tried opting for 10mbps, they TolD it won't support.

@Lamborghini same experience here. My old line was spotty AF. I was on 10mbps 150gb fup plan for 675 (now 699 🤷‍♂️). It was slow, dropped all the time. After so much back and forth, they've redid the whole wiring in my area. Since then it was 10mbps constant all the time with not a single drop. My friend on the same plan had the same issue but no one fixed so he switched to fiber before me.

This month the line went bad again, we were offline for weeks with 3-10KB/s. BSNL basically abandoned us.

One of their retired engineers told us they've even ignored some of their senior official's complaint in their own house. He suggested to go with fiber and now we're at 50mbps for 500gb at Rs. 777. (Symmetrical made a huge difference btw I'm starting to use the cloud for backups, which I would've never on ADSL)

This is so much more economical than 700 rupees for 10mbps 150gb.

Even I wanted to opt for fiber, but plans are expensive and they are not willing to come to my area due to lack of infrastructure and willingness.
