Hi Friends,

Just curious to know about the speeds you are getting on Excitel 100Mbps plan(Reeltime, not fibre) in and around Hyderabad.

I earlier used ACT fibrenet since their speeds were 512kbps until 100mbps and recently switched to Excitel, I used to get 98% of total speed (5Ghz) on ACT everytime 48/50 mbps,97-98/100, these are on wifi, where as Lan the speeds were full with few 0.xx difference.

When connected to LAN on excitel i get only80-90 and not beyond it, never, I'm using a Netgear R6350 and if I alter any of the settings with respect to PPPoE details, say the connection name and save it, then the internet goes off and will never connect even though I input correct username and password. So what I need to do is to restore the back up file saved while the internet was working and then the internet works.

Any inputs regarding the router config and expected speeds ?

I think its because on Excitel Copper, you only get a 100Mbit link between your router and the LCO's ethernet switch. I also only got around 90Mbit on 100Mbit plan when I had Excitel.

You will need a Gigabit link (or alternatively Fiber) to get full 100Mbit on Excitel, Most LCOs don't offer Gigabit ethernet link because they would have to upgrade the cable from 2 pairs to 4 pairs for Gigabit and also upgrade all the network switches, also Gbit is more suspectible to interference compared to 100Mbit . My LCO just told me to get 75Mbit instead of 100Mbit due to congestion on their network. Luckily, I'm on a different ISP which doesn't work on shitty 100Mbit link ethernet.

You have your PPPoE login on your own router right? If thats the case its fine as Excitel doesn't allow multiple users to be singed in at once.

Without username and password, what public IP are you getting? Its fine to share as you are behind a CGN but if you want to you can hide last three digits.

Also, what is the public IP do you get on PPPoE?

"You have your PPPoE login on your own router right? If thats the case its fine as Excitel doesn't allow multiple users to be singed in at once."

Yes I do have a login on router, but even without the login I'm still able to use internet !

"Without username and password, what public IP are you getting? Its fine to share as you are behind a CGN but if you want to you can hide last three digits."

137.6.234.X with router ppoe logged in

137.6.235.X with Direct lan connected to PC, No router, no dial up/without username pswd.

137.6.235.(Varies) with Direct lan connected to PC, No router, "With dial up using username pswd"

It looks like when you are not using PPPoE, you may be either getting someone else's Excitel internet or LCOs demo account.

If you want to dig further, you can go to 192.168.1.1 and see which router it is.

Also, idk whats going on with your 137.6.235.0/24 and 137.6.234.0/24 IP ranges because these IPs belong to U.S Air Force and shouldn't be your public IP.

Is this the IP you got when you Google "My IP"?

😳🙄

Thanks for the info, not sure about the mess, I'll check with LOC today or tomorrow and understand whats going on. By the way does VPN has anything to do here ?

Not sure. VPNs should also not give you that public IP:

Where did fnd this IP from?

Hyderabad was all 100% fiber according to excitel then why are you on reeltime?
Also excitel connection name username and password are necessary for pppoe connection, you can't change anything in that.

Nop, Hyderabad is not all 100% fibre, It all depends on LCO, i checked with them before taking this but they said they still dont have the fibre in my area(infact many areas in hyd) yet so stayed with reeltime.

because of lack of ipv4 ip some ISP use these ip ranges reserved by govt agencies/armed services which a normal users won't really need to access. So unless OP is trying to use any service hosted on US Airforce servers he won't have any problem.

Similar technique is used by Jio and some other ISPs. This technique is against the standards but it works.
