Wow putting all blame on upa. Such a biased article. 12 yrs out of those are under nda govt.

All i know is i cant get mtnl landline at 100-150rs with free unlimited calls even paying upfront for year. While i can avail same on mobile even when mob cos pay termination charges.
Many ppl wanted to keep mtnl landline in past but cheap plans were never an option. Why? Because cheap plans will led them stop milking of govt/psu cos who are forced to buy mtnl landline at ripoff decade old rates.
Adsl was diff story when unbundling was opposed.
Vdsl plans are still rip off and acc to mtnl employees was only for elite.

The employees attitude towards FTTH was also the same. I was told by the SDE for my area that it was for 'Good Customers'. BTW the article does say when the decay started & all govts were at fault. The death knell was part of MMS.

For them at that time Good Customer meant businesses who could be milked for 1.25 lakhs per month. He even told me the name of which businesses who paid that much. When mtnl started mobile services they had gone to govts companies & got a lot of customers but at the same time told everyone that the big wigs in the company were in the pay of 'so & so' & will screwups the service. What an USP to give people who are queuing up for the sim.

Their entry into the mobile space with CDMA mobile phones AND broadband now are both backdoor entries which is not mentioned in the article.
CDMA mobile as provided by MTNL was WLL and perfectly legal. CDMA with multiple service numbers bundled to the same device to provide backdoor roaming, as provided by Mukesh Ambani's Reliance India Mobile, with active backing of Pramod Mahajan, was the real backdoor entry.

MTNL decline started when pramod mahajan was the telecom minister he favor Airtel during his tenure out of the way, the damage was very deep it could not recover from it.

I was NOT referring to MTNL in that post.

I am happy they are down. The moment i got a option i switched to broadband of another company. No one listens in mtnl, my landline was dead for 1 yr back in 2013 as someone cuts underground cable. They still sent bills for entire duration. One has to go their office and waive off those bills. 1 yr to fix that, u can assume how bad they are. May be airtel was paying the exchange people. Sooner or later everyone switched coz they were worst in service unless u are a employee or minister

MTNL broadband could never give me more than 6Mbps any more & I would get massive disconnections. In 2018 the cables got cut due to metro digging at shivaji park, we had to get an alternative on a war footing so we opted for a jiofi as a temporary measure. The connection was down for over 2 months after a few months they did a repeat performance that's when we decided to disconnect.
We knew jio fiber was coming to our area as they had buried their conduits in our area. Jio fiber finally came in Jan 2019.

I had so much issues disconnecting mtnl.
On the reason for disconnection, if you select not satisfied/disappointed with connection, the babu there straight up refused to accept the application. I was in no mood to argue to continue further, he suggested to select shifting of place as a reason and only then accepted the application.
