I have been using Bharat Fiber for about a year now. On Monday, my PON light failed to light up. And the ONT is status is shown as Not registered. I called up BSNL people. They can to my residence on Tuesday. The technician said my ONT was faulty. It's damage due to my placing of the ONT near an inverter. I failed to understand the reasoning behind it as my own new ONT, which I had purchased from Amazon was showing the same issue. They brought their own ONT from their office. When they connected the ONT which they brought with them, the PON light, as if by magic, lights up. So, I was forced to admit that my ONT was faulty and was also forced to by their ONT, which I bought as I had no other option.

Now, today at around 11pm, my PON light has stopped lighting up again. The ONT is not even a week old. Any this time, I kept it far away from the inverter.

Therefore, my request to all members, is to share your ideas/reasons as what could be causing this issue.

Thanking all in anticipation.

Can you share the current status displayed under PON information?
Did you check with your LCO about the this authentication issue with OLT?
I told them about the authentication issue but they flatly denied that my ONU was blacklisted.

It probably isn't blacklisted but simply not-whitelisted. 🤪

It's 100% issue from LCO. Your ONT is just fine. See the attached screenshot.

@Jaydev @varkey @pothi @vignesh_venkatesan How will the OLT disable the ONT by itself at 11pm at night and why only mine, no problem with others and later stopped working permanently no matter what they did and only works with a new ONT only? These are all the things that I have been wondering! Is this some sort of a scam to force me into buying their ONT? Today, they brought a new ONT and as I said earlier, as if by magic, it's working fine for now, but I don't know for how long. I am beginning to believe that the same problem will occur again, imagine changing your ONT twice in a week! I am also beginning to believe that bsnl upgraded the OLT firmware recently and this could be a bug in the new firmware. Better ask them tomorrow.

I have two ONTs - Syrotech (which LCO forced me to buy from them as their OLT is also Syrotech and could lead to registration issues with OLTs of other brands, which is not true) and DBC ( I purchased from Amazon, which I later configured myself and was working absolutely fine and also confirmed that their was no sort of authentication in place at the OLT level. Just use any ONT, it will get registered and work without any problem. I used it for only a day and switched back to the Syrotech ONT. Since then the DBC ONT was just lying inside my cupboard.). Both ONTs are the same, only difference in branding.

Now, the sequence of events:
1. On 20.07.2020, the PON light went off! So, I took out my DBC ONT and connected it just to ascertain if the problem was with the line or ONT. To my surprise, the PON light didn't turn on either on the new DBC ONT which was actually brand new. So, no PON light on both ONTs, which were working absolutely fine earlier. So, I assured myself that since the PON light is not turning on even on the new DBC ONT, it must definitely be a problem with the OLT or OLT has started enforcing prior authentication of ONT as the line stats were good. Thus, I registered a complaint on Customer care.
2. On 21.07.2020, my LCO came to my residence for inspection and brought a new ONT (Same Syrotech model) with them. And as if by magic, when they connected the new ONT, the PON light turned green and everything started working as before contrary to my belief. So, they started to blame my inverter which was placed near the ONT and forced me to buy the new ONT. I had no other option, so I bought it for Rs.3000/-. And this time, I put the ONT away from the inverter. And no authentication mode was enforced by the OLT as the connection status is "Registered, but not authenticated".
3. On 28.07.2020 at around 11pm, the PON light went off again and never turned back on to green. So, I registered another complaint.
4. On 30.07.2020, my LCO came again to my residence for inspection and brought a new ONT (Syrotech but different model) with them. And again as if by magic, when they connected the new ONT, the PON light turned green and everything started working as before. I tried arguing with them this time and told them that their claim of my inverter damaging the ONT has no logic and also told them that this time I have placed the ONT away from the inverter. I also told them that as the connection status was shown as not registered, it could be problem with the OLT. So, they replaced the ONT with the new one with the suggestion not to put the ONT and inverter in the same room (😂😂😂) and luckily they didn't charge me anything this time.

I always used the ONT in bridge mode with its wifi and DHCP turned off and connected it to my Tenda AC1200 for all functions and purposes. In all these cases, there was no LOS. I didn't connect anything new to the router.

The LCO guys and myself are still confused as to what is causing this problem. Was it just a coincidence caused by a defective ONT? Were the OLT configuration of my PON really correct as claimed by the LCO? All these questions are still haunting me. I have a premonition that it will happen again soon.😂

In all my earlier posts, by BSNL, I meant the LCO.

I think the LCO or the guys working there doesn't know what registered means. Try to show them the stats if it happens again. Tell them to check the configuration of their OLT and check if your ONT is registered or not.

@thadougamer Prima facie, seems like an issue at OLT end. All your concerns are valid, given the shittiness of all the Chinese equipment being used in BSNL's networks. Literally anything is possible! Regarding, it happening at 11Pm, that might be the time of expiry of lease/reboot of OLT/or something like that.

By the way, since your 'faulty' ont is just a year old, why didn't you try claiming warranty? Most these days come with a 3 yr warranty.

before it was adsl light turned off frequently when we used to adsl router, now PON light turning off when we upgraded to fiber, before we used to compare adsl line strength db value, now we are comparing our tx rx value in our ONT , whatever technology we upgrade the problem with bsnl will never end it seems

the same issue is happening with me to. the LCO has changed the device 3 times in a week, but the same thing is happening after few days or week. the same device was working fine from last 2 years and suddenly this problem arises. As the device is under warranty, they do not charge anything for the replacement.
