Do you always exhaust your monthly data?

Hi. I don't know if this is in the correct category to make this thread or not. So, If it is not, I am sorry.

Anyways, I have been using BSNL DSL Broadband connection for more than 2 years now. Bharat Fiber just came into my area recently. I live in Upper Assam. I have the 599 plan which is suppose to give me 4GB per day of speed 10mbps and after FUP 2mbps of speed. In reality, I get 3.4mbps of speed and after fup I get like 2.1mbps.

I do really want better speed so I have been thinking about upgrading to Bharat Fiber for a while now. The thing is... I watch a lot of media . A LOT . especially now. Be it from Youtube(in 720p), Netflix(HD plan) or Disney Hotstar(HD) or any site. Though the before FUP speed on the Fiber is attractive, the after FUP speed is not. I mean I already get 2.1mbps at the moment. Most of the time, it runs the videos just... fine. It doesn't buffer 90% of the time. According to the selfcare BSNL site, I use only upto 300GB of data a month which is honestly surprising to me cause I feel like it should be way more.

But I feel like if I get higher speed, it will load videos faster and hence more data might be consumed that way. I am just not sure if I want to pay extra for the setup just to use 2 mbps after fup speed which I am already using. Anyone here who is also a big media consumer? I would like to know your experience with it. Do you exhaust yours completely?

For me, selfcare portal shows average 16gb usage per day which is quite hard to believe as when I was in Bangalore i have 150Mbps Act fibernet over there and usage stays about 7-8gb. Also I don't watch Netflix or any online content since I came home.

Depends on what screen you have. If it is 1080p screen, you will automatically get 1080p videos at max by default even if higher resolution videos are available. How can I control how much data Netflix uses? shows how much you can consume. I have the 50 Mbps 600 GB plan. I hardly reach halfway towards the end of the month. How much will you watch that you can consume 20 GB per day?

On the other hand FTTH is better than copper lines. 2.1 Mbps works well for Netflix. I know cause I used to have BSNL Broadband too but the line got unstable towards the end of last year. Now imagine you are watching something and downloading another thing at the same time. Higher speeds will make the download a breeze. Assuming you are paying near 800-900 now, wouldn't it be better if you pay the same for more speed and higher FUP.

Yeah, I guess it is better to pay for the installation charge and all that and get the higher speed. I pay 700+ now. I don't mind paying 200-300 more monthly. But, I also kinda want to wait for Airtel Fiber cause I feel like the 100mbps with the 299 plan thereby making it unlimited is such a good deal. I am also afraid of exhausting my data and using the FUP speed most of the time if I opt for the BSNL Fiber plan. It just seems like a useless upgrade to me if I do end up using it like that. 500-600GB does seem enough though. I don't download anything or even play online games. I just stream a lot of HD content.

Yup but it is still in Invite now mode. Wonder how many applied. If they were already here I would have thought about it. Jio line was already up before BSNL FTTH even got here and they don't advertise their presence whereas Jio knocked twice to provide connection. In my street only 2 homes have BSNL FTTH including mine. Rest are already using local ISP Mnet or Jio or something else IDK. Airtel's journey is going to be a very long, hard road.
If you can wait, sure, go for Airtel. Even though I like their plans, they are not here at the moment and a little late. Hope Tata Sky Broadband comes here too.

I have thought about Jio. I think it is available here I have heard some talks flying around. Plus the Jio main office is pretty near my area. Jio and BSNL's 600GB plans are of the same price( ‎₹‎847 before GST). But, BSNL does provide 2mbps FUP speed as opposed to Jio's 1mbps. What's making Jio unattractive is that they have these lockdown and introductory data BS which they can remove anytime. It just doesn't look like a good investment. I also heard their upload speed is crap. I don't intend to upload videos or anything but I would still like to have the option to do it and not spend a ridiculous amount of hours on it. Maybe if Jio upgrade their plans this year and provide a more fix data, I will think about them again. If only they did a 299 plan like Airtel to add on the main plan instead of that 199 plan which only last for a week. Maybe they will, they are JIO after all with their aggressive approach.

I have heard of Mnet. Is it good? The tweets and Facebook reviews I have seen of them aren't that favourable. Yeah, Tata Sky Broadband plans are pretty good. It's annoying how little ISP options we have here.

If your current consumption of data on a limited plan is high, the same would rise when you get a fibre or a high speed plan. Given your consumption pattern, your best bet would be Airtel(299/- top-up). Any device supporting higher resolution and if your net supports the bandwidth, it will automatically latch to highest possible settings.

I am still in ADSL, with limit of 140gb. I expired my Duo today and will be surviving on 1mbps. Will be increasing my base plan. Regarding when will Airtel come to Assam, you can contact them at their office if permitted or ask on their twitter handle.

For now you can choose a plan with an approximate data consumption. Like if your usage is 300gb, go for 600gb and check accordingly how much are you using post fibre setup. You can change your plan later on as per your consumption pattern.

till today i used 446.22 GB and I am at 600gb plan.running 50"TV(you tube,prime zee5, Disney) and desktop and mobile for at least 13-14 hours hours daily

@.lamborghini I have tried DM-ing Airtel's Twitter Handle several times. They always give out the same generic bot responses of working hard to expand their network. I don't think they will be coming to Assam anytime soon. They seems to be very slow in expanding even in other states. I am just waiting to see if Jio will put out better plans. If not, I will most likely go for BSNL FTTH's 600GB plan.

Please get review of bsnl ftth in your area from an existing consumer, if possible. Things like stable link, consistent speeds, uptime, pings etc

I have a query. I am thinking to upgrade my current 10 mbps plan. My usage is one 32" TV (prime video, Netflix, Hotstar, youtube), one laptop, 3-4 mobile phones (basic social media apps use only). Will a 20 mbps plan be sufficient for my use if I am using TV and phones simultaneously? Since I have noticed, while using TV sometimes speed drops on my phone.

More speed is always good

Any screen with large layout will consume more bandwidth (speed). Simultaneous use of both TV and phones will have a jittery experience on low speeds. 50mbps should be fine. Try with 25, else migrate to 50.

@riju If you were in Guwahati you would have been able to book a connection on Airtel's website. Guwahati is listed as Invite Now. Mnet seems okay but their plans are not so okay. A friend of mine got Mnet because they had a fiber line nearby. 15 Mbps up and down costs around 1000. Only plus is Mnet is unlimited pre-paid.

mine 50"TV is full HD not 4 k one,so may be that's why i consume less data but i download games and torrent .Also even when i was 10 mbps bsnl broadband my download was 350-400 GB only
