BSNL doesn't offer gigabit speed for consumers nor enterprise. But the backend is capable of delivering gigabit speed, but still, the max they offer is 100 Mbps (200 Mbps in some circles). Right now the traffic through ipv6 is unmetered, you'd get higher speeds to ipv6 servers. It depends on the LCO and the last mile connection capacity. If it is ample, you'd get the theoretical speed (1 Gbps).
Most LCOs have a Gigabit backbone to BSNL so technically people who are savy enough to make use of ipv6 are hampering the speeds of others who don't have ipv6 configured.
@vignesh_venkatesan it's 10 Gbps which is capped at 1 Gbps and increases on their discretion.
I would say most of these ppl are not using 700mbps contsantly , except for some satisfying speedtest or sometimes torrent, very few people here have ability to keep that pipe occupied
@Realme One or two is fine but if handful of people use uncapped speeds then there will be noticeable effects.
Let's start with PON link, most LCOs use EPON which has 1.2 gigabit capacity which usually has high split ratios.
Atleast immediate neighbours can get slowdowns.
I did ask once my LCO about contention ratio , they didn't get the term but did mention plans for 1:3 splitting.
Altho for many months until few days back I was on 1:1 black cable direct to OLT(power was so high he added another 1:8 splitter right before my ONT to 1:1 line) , no splitting, unfortunately I wasn't blessed with uncapped ipv6 ;-;
Well I know my lco dont have any gigabit backbone I think because speeds never crossed 95 mbps for me on ipv6,also once they disabled my vlan from bsnl saying its hampering the connection at the lco end due to unnecessary traffic from my end
