Network Giant Jio is giving out configuration for eSim for the compatible 4G mobile devices.

The eSim profile can be installed through a App by scanning the QR code on the back of Jio Sim card packet

Nope, this QR can not be used.

Yep, I agree with @Nikhil Sharma, unless they have changed things recently, the QR code on the back, is only used when activating the SIM card in their app which they use to register/activate the new connection or sim change etc.

In case of Airtel you can activate eSim completely online without visiting the store which is something I really liked. For Jio have to visit the store. ☹️

JioStore doesn’t get any incentive on sim replacement, so they don’t usually convert your physical sim to eSim. So it’s a real pain to get Jio eSim.

I have a question, what happens if you accidentally delete the esim profile or you lose the phone? Or if you want to switch the esim to another phone?

Airtel says "The QR code is unique and is applicable for just one time use on one device only. ... Customer should not select "Delete" option from the eSIM settings as this will permanently delete the eSIM profile"

So it seems like both Jio and Airtel requires you to visit a physical store to transfer an esim to another device. So if you're abroad and your phone dies, you'll be stranded. A physical sim is the best option there.

Now pray that something doesn't go wrong with your phone. Because if it does, you're kinda stuck. You will have to visit the Jio store to get a replacement and will have to go through verification.

I had to deal with this with my AirTel that I converted to an additional eSIM on my Pixel 3 XL.

I did it for experimental purpose as I saw that Samsung S20+ now supports eSim after latest update.
Anyways Jio number is my secondary number, so I would not get stuck if something goes wrong 😊

Best thing is now I could reinsert my 64 GB microSD card again in handset at Sim 2 tray (which would now not work for Sim card) 😀
