Hi there. New member here.

Just got my AirtelFiber connection with Nokia G140W-C. Found this awesome community while googling about the Nokia thingy. I need your suggestions and tips regarding enhancing security on my connection. My password is WPA2. Any settings you think that should be changed right away? I am also thinking of changing my DNS in router settings, do you think it is a good idea? (I will be using the connection with PS4, PC, TV and phones.)

What extra steps you all take for enhancing security? Thanks in advance.

Disable WPS if you have it enable.

Don't open any ports unless necessary.

Disable remote management of router (I don't think Airtel has this by default).

You can change DNS, it's perfectly fine, Airtel doesn't hijack DNS so you don't have to go encrypted DNS but it's always preferred because ISP can still read DNS queries (even when server is changed) if it's unencrypted.

If available, update your router to latest firmware to avoid easy to exploit vulnerabilities.

Thank you for the tips JB700. A question regarding DNS, which one you recommend from your experience? And is it best to change DNS in router or to change it individually on device?

On Airtel either Cloudflare or Google DNS will work as both have good peering (though from my experience Cloudflare is faster).

You can set DNS on your router and use encrypted DNS on your browser (Firefox and Chrome supports this now) and on phones you can use 1.1.1.1 app.

But if you aren't that paranoid about whether ISP is reading your DNS queries you can set it on your router and be done with it.

Do keep in mind Airtel can still see which sites you visit using IP Address and SNI (they can't see what's inside packets due to HTTPS Encryption) unless you use a VPN (in which case the ISP can only see your VPNs IP Address).

i found on my Nokia G140W-F the security level under Security>Firewall was set to off by default. you can check if u have a similar setting on the G140W-C and change it to low and use port forwarding to open specific application ports if needed.
