What would you risk for five minutes of pure power?
On the streets of New Orleans, word begins to spread about a mysterious new pill that unlocks superpowers unique to each user. The catch: You don’t know what will happen until you take it. While some develop bulletproof skin, invisibility, and super strength, others exhibit a deadlier reaction. But when the pill escalates crime within the city to dangerous levels, a local cop (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) teams with a teenage dealer (Dominique Fishback) and a former soldier fueled by a secret vendetta (Jamie Foxx) to fight power with power and risk taking the pill in order to track down and stop the group responsible for creating it.

Keep an eye on writer Mattson Tomlin - you may not know his name now, but you will soon. Not only is the filmmaker a co-writer on Matt Reeves' upcoming superhero epic The Batman, but he's also working on a big-screen adaptation of
Mega Man, based on the classic video game franchise. Still, Project Power came first.
Back in October 2017, Project Power was the subject of a fierce bidding war between a number of Hollywood studios.
Given the story's unique premise, it's easy to see why. In Project Power, a new pill called Power has begun flooding the streets of New Orleans that grants anyone who takes it superpowers. There's just a couple catches. For one, while the chemically induced abilities are powerful, they only last for five minutes. For another, the powers the pill bestows are random. Yeah, you might get invisibility or super-speed, but you might also blow up and die. So, yeah. It's a gamble.
That hasn't stopped New Orleans' criminal element from embracing the pill and using it to wreak havoc across the city. Project Power's super-powered shenanigans lead to some truly wild action sequences - like a chase scene involving a robber with camouflage powers must be seen to be believed - and Tomlin's script mines its innovative concept for all it's worth.
