TRAI blocks vodafone RedX and airtel's platinum range of plans

how blocking sites and net neutrality is related? are isp blocking competitors sites and providing better speeds to selected or their own sites?
AFAIK, it is related.
From IFF website
It is important to understand the illegality behind these current swarm of blockings:

  • Violation of Net Neutrality - Firstly, an ISP is not permitted to engage in any discriminatory treatment of content. Discriminatory here indicates any form of discrimination, restriction or interference in the way it treats content - it goes on to include practices such as blocking, degrading, slowing down or granting preferential speeds or treatment. Therefore, in light of our current block-mania, it is in clear violation of net neutrality.
  • Type of Practice - Secondly, even if such practices are engaged, there is a mandate on ISP’s to be proportionate, transient and transparent and can be carried out only under specific conditions. We have examined a variety of reports concluding that there has been no explanation by the ISP’s for the blocking; the continuity over the last few months clearly it not temporary and neither has it been conducted transparently with no information being provided by the
  • ISP Requirements - Thirdly, the conditions it fails to comply with are of particular importance to us. These practices can be conducted if an ISP is reasonably managing traffic, providing emergency services during a grave public emergency, in order preserve integrity and security of the network/equipment, in pursuance of an international treaty and most applicable to us, in implementation of a court order or Government direction. Evidently, the latter is especially not the reason as per an RTI request (Read here for more).

You have not answered my question how it is a violation of NN.

NN simply means providing preferential treatment to some network/service and discriminate against other service, to give advantage to particular service/network or simply to make profit directly/indirectly. Did any competitor here is paying these ISP to block any sites?

Censorship =/= Net neutrality.

Everything and anything is not a violation of NN.

Did you not read the quoted text or website?

Second sentence on Wikipedia page for Net neutrality : " ISP's may not intentionally block, slow down, or charge money for specific online content "

@blueman24 sites are blocked because of DOT order not to benefit anyone. You cannot buy a pack or pay extra to unlock those sites.

Its censorship. And poor implementation of blocking sites which results in site wide ban instead of just a particular url.

NN violation ex- if Jio blocks all streaming apps except their own. or If you block competitive sites like China does to promote their service then its NN violation.

Do you think there is any difference between Censorship and NN ?

So it seems fire was fuelled by jio letter to trai on 7th July pointing out to malpractice of avoid.

Sc hearing on agr is slated for 20th July. Date is out.

Vil lost case in tdsat ALMOST. No stay on trai order.

Trai customers addition report out. Vil lost 64lakhs user. Airtel too lost 12 lakhs. Entire bunch if users are either consolidated or moving between jio and bsnl.

I think void has lot many things on plate to deal with between this and next week.

I have not read the DOT guidelines. But in some countries like USA its allowed (legal) to differentiate 4G speed (and even companies do) depends on customer opting for the respective plan.

Take example of T-Mobile in USA, they offer better speeds for the people who opt for expensive plans but it claims during "congestion time" rest of the time the speeds are same.
Like us there is no overpopulation there

Already towers are at heavy usage. Speeds are heavily dropped .

Now how can they allot seperatly.

It can possible these.

Thats what Trai asking.

I was not aware of this case.
Last Saturday I visited to inquire about Airtel 4G Dongle. Salesgirl at store told they have 2 Dongles, locked and unlocked. Unlocked was priced little higher.
When I asked whether I can use Airtel's prepaid sim in Dongle, she said I can, but speed is slower on Prepaid compared to Postpaid. I asked why, both are connected to same 4G network. She obviously had no answer. Now due to this thread I know why 😀

BTW I have Airtel Dongle Rs 499 plan, it is giving good speed and it has improved over period of last month, so during power cuts when my wired broadband is down, I can still continue WFH without any issues. But in beginning period of lockdown, speed was very bad, not even 1 Mbps, which forced me to get Wired broadband.

@SVK . I better advice avoid cartel to better shape up or perish. Such fraud activity will not do any good to them in coming days than do more harm actually. What i witnessed in reliance AGM today is quite revolutionary from self reliant 5g to 2g mukt bharat, I see voda idea packing it's bag soon after next week sc circus and tdsat case. With no avenues to raise ARPU it will simply not survive. I see airtel struggling too since they r still sticking to conventional telecom business model with no avenues of monitising it's 300 mn users. Their digital platform is too narrow and lacks adiction for users to pay for it. All major technology vendors are shareholders in jio so nothing much is left for airtel to partner with barring typical telcos like singtel or Verizon who can give their perished products or throw in some dollars. That's it.
