I got rid of my Asus Max Pro M1 because the battery had just begun to bulge & at the same time I noticed there was a blue spot on the screen. I got myself a Samsung Galaxy M31.

I have always used MAC filter for my res wifi. My problem is the 5GHz connects without any hassles but I am getting a ‘WiFi authenticating error’ on the 2.4GHZ band. I have used the same phone MAC address for both bands in my Jio Fiber router (it’s a dual band router).

Anyone here who has a Galaxy M31 or any other Galaxy phone which has dual band Wi-Fi. Am I doing something wrong

  • Does this phone have 2 MAC separate MAC addresses for its 2 WiFi bands. I am asking this because the MAC address I find in ‘About Phone’-> Status (Here I find the MAC address for both Wi-Fi & Bluetooth is the same) is different from the one I found in the WiFI section in ‘Advanced’. Adding both in router (in the2.4GHZ access point) does not seem to help.
I connected it to Jio Fi, which does not use MAC filter & it works.

I switched off MAC filter for 2.4GHz band on the Jio Fiber & it connects easily. So it’s not a problem with my phone WiFi.

So what could be wrong

Yes both have diff mac address.
with m31 here confirmed via Netgear nighthawk app.

@socrates I think android 10 by default uses random MAC to connect with WiFi APs, check if it is enabled on your phone, if enabled you can change that to "Use device MAC"

@Gokul Kannan Thanks it worked now. Yesterday it had not worked👍
Strangely for the 5GHz the "Use Randomized MAC (default)" works well but not for the 2.4GHz.

(This could be useful to any other M31 user who may have this problem) Also the MAC address I used for the 5GHz is found here. Settings->connections->WiFi->3 dots in top right corner->Advanced->MAC address mentioned at the bottom of screen.
