BSNL has outsourced their internet connection contracts to local cable providers and Asianet is currently handling BSNL's FTTH service.

They were trying to sell me Genexis FTTH wifi router and I think it would be better to get the router from another brand, which will be compatible with BSNL. Due to the pandemic situation most of the FTTH devices are sold out and I was able to find a vendor who is selling Huawei HG8145v5 router (GPON ONT). The vendor says that BSNL FTTH Huawei HG8145v5 works well with BSNL but since Asianet is handling their network, I am quite not sure whether I can use Huawei HG8145v5 router or not.

I am sure that the Asianet guy is withholding things from me as I am not interested in buying the device they supply. He is saying that he can't confirm whether Huawei HG8145v5 router will work or not until they check it. Earlier, I was told that I can buy any modem which has FTTH support, GPON and ONT (for VOIP). Now he is raising questions about Huawei router's compatibility on Asianet network.

Should I proceed with buying the Huawei device? Netlink, Syrotech ONTs are out of stock everywhere.

The ont should be compatible with olt present in the asianet premises, check which the compatiblty of their olt with your desired ont and then only buy, otherwise it wont work. Mostly asianet is providing genexis and zte modems. By the way how come asianet is handling bsnl network . Dont they have their own gigafibernet in your area?

Thank you. BSNL is a company which is at the verge of collapse and they are offloading some of their services to local cable providers in the name of cost cutting.

I can't keep asking them about the technologies as he is already upset about me buying another device on my own.

@varkey so basically the officer from BSNL asked me to get a GPON ONT device but the Asianet guy is telling me that he isn't sure about the device. Now I am in a dilemma whether or not to get the Huawei HG8145v5 router.

I am getting the Huawei HG8145v5 device for 2500 rs. It includes dual wifi, GPON and ONT

Here are the images of the modem/router of one of my neighbour who is also subscribed to BSNL FTTH broadband.
Looks like the model is GPON/GEPON supported ONT-RGW

Hey u shouldn't buy ont with wifi , else u should go for the most basic ont having 1 gigabit port and 1 fast ethernet port. and u can buy a dual band wifi router archer c6 is a good one affrodable , and connect ur ont to the router as bridge mode. I am saying this as ont with wifi has poor perfomance not only they are single band but there are perfomance degradtion , range issues as more and more devices gets connected to it.

@philip the problem is I am not getting basic onts anywhere. The devices are all out of stock and the prices of the ones of such units available are massively inflated up because of corona

I think @varkey can help u in procuring a one. It will be the most effective way and also a future proof one .u cannot trust these Chinese ones for a long time.
