Hi guys,

I do not get wifi signals in one of my rooms at the far end with the default router (BDT-121 Dual band 11AC GPON Router) that came with Airtel. I have an additional D-Link Router with me which I started using in AP mode to extend the range and it works fine.

The problem is that I now have two SSIDs and have to manually change them while moving in the house everytime - which is very inconvenient.

Did some research on the internet and I understand that using a MESH Router will solve my problem. However, since I am a novice, I would like to understand from you:

* If it is possible to solve my problem with the existing hardware that I have. It is D-Link 825ac. I also have an additional TP-Link TL-WR841N

* If not, there are a lot of mesh routers available on Amazon. Which one would you suggest - reasonably priced and good performance.

* Alternatively is there any other Router which I can purchase having good range to cover the entire house (1700 sqft) ?

Thank you in advance for the help.

P. S. - I did not find any existing thread on this topic so created a new one. In case there is one, you may link it down here please.

Option 2 is best. Better search on how to set it up as bridge mode. If any help needed you can post screenshots here. In Bridge mode your ont will work as dumb fiber modem. Dhcp/routing everything else to be done by Asus router only.

Option1 n 3 are almost same. Option 1 auto ip config while 3 is manual ip config. Problem in current setup is all routing/dhcp is done by Huawei which got unknown underpowered processor. While the asus one with powerful dual core processor is sitting as dumb wireless access point.

Even if you buy mesh in future, using Huawei in bridge would give you all mesh functions else all parental control/bandwidth control features wont work on mesh.

Hi,

I've setup bridge mode by going through some post over this forum and also online. I don't know if its 100% accurate or not.

Now my Asus router is performing everything including DHCP and WiFi.

Now, how to access Huawei router interface. 192.168.1.1 takes me to Asus interface. How to access Huawei interface.

Also, in the Huawei settings, instead of doing changes in the existing profile to make it as bridge mode, Ive created a new one. But didn't delete the old profile that's for Internet settings. Should I delete that also. I didn't touch the profile related to Voice. Hence I need to access Huawei if I should delete the old Internet profile or go back to old settings, if any issue occurs.

As of now it's working. I tried connecting the Huawei router via a lan cable but it did not work. Am I missing anything here.. Pl do let me know your thoughts. Thanks again.

I don't know why I'm not getting any reply option to some posts. Is there any rule that it appears after a certain time of the post?.

Dear Vignesh, Thanks for the quick response.

Any waybto check if my Huawei router is working fine in bridge mode. Also can you pl elaborate the process you mentioned in your post to access Huawei router in bridge mode. I guess the Huawei router and laptop should be connected using a lan cable and post that need to do the process you have mentioned. Pl. elaborate on this. Thanks in advance.

@Venkata Ramesh Chandra V I believe there is some sort of criteria for certain features of the forum.
Connect your Huawei router to your pc.
Then open network and sharing center in control panel.
Choose change adapter setting from the left hand side menu pane.
In there select lan adapter and right click and select properties.
In there select ipv4, right click and select configure.
There assign ip address, default gateway and subnet mask.
Ip address : 192.168.x.100 (refer under side of router for default gateway and assign a ip in that range)
Default gateway : 192.168.x.x.( enter router ip)
Subnet mask : 255.255.255.0
Dns 1.1.1.1 1.0.0.1
Apply this settings and try accessing the web interface using the router ip.

I was able to login to the Huawei settings by following the procedure as mentioned in the above post.

Should I keep the IP address there or should I remove it after coming out of Huawei interface.

Also, I'm facing a weird issue with interface. I thought of posting a review after checking for couple of days.

Yesterday and today around same time I had issues with net connectivity around 9pm. No issue since morning till night. I don't know if there is any issue from Airtel side or any issue with bridge settings I made or my own Asus router configuration.

I'm attaching few images of the bridge settings of Asus router. Pl do let me know if there is any issue from my end

The above two images are the settings from my Asus router.

.
The above is my bridge settings on my Huawei. I've deleted the profile(Internet profile with TR069))that's comes with the huawei router so as to avoid any conflict). Is this the correct procedure or should I've retained the default profile.

The below is the IP settings around the time when there is continuous disruption to Internet around 9pm.

Screenshot_20200717-210440_Chrome.jpg

Pl see the change in IP address between the two situations. 223.230.xx.xx when it's working to 117.98.yy.yy(remember seeing this IP in one of my backup images taken before setting up bridge mode on Huawei) when there were continuous disruptions to Internet.

Pl guide me if there is anything I need to do. Else I may be forced to go back router mode on Huawei with Asus as Access point.

Thanks in advance.

This is in continuation to my previous post.

Looks like the disconnection is happening when the TV is switched on. Apple TV 4K, Airtel Xstream Stb, and LG smart TV are all connected wireless to the Asus router.

Is the asus router culrput here for the disconnections. When the TV is off, kids were able to connect to their online classes using laptops without any issue and mobiles are also working fine. Only when TV is powered on along with its connected devices WiFi is getting disconnected and getting reconnected. But all the lights are glowing on the Huawei and Asus routers at the time of disconnection.

Also couple of days back, I've updated the firmware of Asus router to the current or latest version of 2020 year. Earlier version was from year 2018. Is this the culprit.

Ubiquiti single Mesh node is enough to cover 1500 ft . No config hassles are associated with this device. Bring Ethernet port from your GPON or repeat your existing Wifi . It does it all ... Has Advanced configuration of a High end router if u need to get some hands dirty in configuring it according to your needs and supports around 2 Gbps

@shashankb Can you pl be specific with the particular model. Unless we setup Huawei in bridge mode, I don't think we can get full control of any router we use. How different is this here in this scenario. The other option left. Is only using our router in ACcess point which doesn't utilise it to its full potential. Access point limits its other functionality.

I'm tired of the bridge mode due to frequent disconnections. I'll check till tomorrow for any possible solution for the disconnections and if no proper solution in sight, will configure Asus as Access point and Huawei back to router mode from bridge mode.

@Venkata Ramesh Chandra V Seems your Asus router is supported by openwrt. With openwrt you will be able to access the bridged Huawei modem following this.

Openwrt is an excellent firmware but you need to be familiar with linux. If you are not, you probably want to take somebody's help in flashing the firmware.

Reading your previous messages, it seems you are not sure whether the disconnections is due to Huawei or Asus. I suggest whenever you get a disconnection, connect your computer with an ethernet/LAN cable to the Asus router and check if you are still getting internet. You should be able to see on the Asus router whether the PPPoE connection is still up.
  • If it is then your Asus router has a flaky wifi radio (maybe interference issues). Check if the wifi channel is optimum.
  • If not then Huawei may be dropping the connection which in my experience is very unlikely.
