Maybe the serial number of your new ONT has to be registered with the OLT setup of your ISP . They usually block consumer`s private ONT to sell their thing
Technically it should work . Just tally the GPON section of your Netlink with the TP link one . It usually has a password like thing configured in it(Netlink)

Usally lco use use EPON, guess this is due to the GPON incompatibility. I do think that might be the reason. It does say the router is GEPON.. Btw how much did the router cost you?

Yes, you would need to get the new ONT registered on the OLT or clone the serial of the old ONT to the new ONT. I don't know if the TP-Link ONT supports it though.

I am also having a similar problem with Syrotech modem. The PON led goes off after a few days when I connect it to my switch and then I have to replace the modem. A total of 4 modems are replaced in one month.

pon light /reg light goes off because of olt side loop detection. Check your network setup
