Torrenting Problem on Spectra

ok so i am facing another issue here - i randomly get pathetic speeds when i download from the seedbox to my PC. i did a traceroute & to my surprise, i found that all my traffic gets routed via telstra! this is happening with every site & not just the seedbox.

here is a tracert to example.org:

Tracing route to example.org [93.184.216.34]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.0.1

i am sure i can't even complain about this & it could very well be the reason for slow downloads to my pc which happen when telstra might be congested.

well guess what, spectranet is definitely the worst ISP in this country right now!

i used a seedbox for trial purposes and then tried to download that file to my PC via a FTP client (Filezilla). To my shock, i was downloading the file at only 15-20 kbps speeds. i changed ISP to hathway to test & guess what - full speed of the connection.

these MFers are even throttling FTP speeds! its not just limited to torrents. how can they do this and get away with it?

guys, never take a connection from spectra shit.
If your seedbox has a rerouting tool try that. i used to kinda get shiity speeds at time and i still get crappy speeds on filezilla(downloading single file and uploading in general)
i use my linux machine now to FTP over to my seedbox using lftp to both upload and download and i top out 1 Gbps (do note that my linux machine is still on very old pentium processor)
torrents on that linux machine is still shit on public and on private its good enough when you get proper peers since spectra has one of the worst peerings and routings i've seen

ranting helps man. i used to rant all the time. i moved that bit to social media few years ago. 😁 now i am bored and tired. things are not going to magically fix. big state is here and all we can do is look for ways around to get the job done!

i learnt a lot of things dealing with the shit these companies have been throwing around. would have never considered or bothered to get a VPN or switch to encrypted dns. now it is basically part of online life. i suggest more and more people to make their online communication secure and encrypted so that isps cannot play around with it.

yes ranting does work but ranting on a private support tickets gets you nowhere go to their social media twitter and facebook and show the proof of how bad it is you'll definitely get a basic response as in please contact us we'll try and fix it but show them your previous support tickets in public and tell them how nothing ever gets fixed
now if you're lucky a knowledgeable person from their internal team will call you and at least try and fix it. like i said before i used to get shitty speeds from my seedbox or basically on every server except only on their own servers after this rant speeds to few of the severs i mostly use have been great

Also while checking speeds between your system and servers try and use Iperf i usually get more accurate results since i've never seen that throttled and then try other tools to actually check if anything else does get throttled or is it just crappy routing and peering

hmm i've never seen my connections routed though telstraglobal but my connections randomly do get routed through paris and all over europe though i just wanted to stay in asia 🙁
try to change your WAN IP in your router from sometime like 10.X.X.101 to 10.X.X.222 this will change the public IP and the subnet you're on you might get you a better routing
Do note that sometimes the IP you chose will already be assigned to somebody and you wont be able to connect to the internet just change the end value and it should work

Right? I always see Airtel , TATA or Flag IPs in traceroutes in first few hops. It's so weird that the traffic straight up goes to Telstra at 5th hop with 2ms ping.

spectra uses vodafone, TATA and VSNL. VSNL is usually the good one and vodafone is the worst

my traffic from BLR to BLR goes through chennai i did ask them why do this mostly the guys say cost saving measure

and also getting them to fix routing is almost next to impossible to get them to fix their 380ms pings to singapore me and @varkey went through a lot. i personally have spent atleast 48 hours of time with them but finally the answer would be "Sir we cant optimise routes for dynamic IP why dont you get a Static IP" and then i try to get static IP and their team is like sir we only provide static IP to business connections, now i tell this to their engineer he is like oh thats weird ! 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

from past month or so pings to 1.1.1.1 is 480 ms

So i got my new PC up and running and installed unRAID on it

there is a docker container for rtorrent which includes rtorrent+rutorrent+VPN+privproxy (support for PIA portforwarding automatically)

Downloaded kali linux + ubuntu desktop 19.10+ ubuntu server 19.10 + a new well seeded torrent from a linux tracker.
Without VPN on in docker the speeds were hit or miss, But with PIA vpn connected and auto portforwarding i saw download speeds of over 70 MBPS+ unraid stats shows me i reached a maximum of 780 mbps+
and got a newly uploaded torrent (2GB in size) from a public tracker uploads on that reached over 70 MBPS again and in under few hours it reached a ratio of 78! before I stopped the torrent.

on private trackers hitting 1.0 ratio was hard but it looks like i'm able to do it but i'd need to look into it more
maximum speeds on private torrent uploads was about 400 mbps but no doubt on most trackers you'll get beat out by seedboxes if you're planning on racing.

OpenVPN does take some processing power from the limited testing at around 60+ MBPS upload / download the OpenVPN used about 70-100% CPU on single thread (i have a 16 core 32 thread CPU) running at around 3.5-4GHZ. But this can definitely improve in the future once the VPN providers start supporting wiregaurd VPN and when / if the docker container i'm using adds support for it

using PIA on windows with qbittorrent couldn't ever match the results i get now

But it also depends on which server you're connected on and on which subnet you're on since few subnets just have very bad routing

they have sponsored it but have no ETA on when its coming one of my friends from USA did give me access to mullvad wiregaurd config sometime back but weirdly it used to lock me at 100 mbps.

but with now that PIA was brought by the parent company of cyberghost and others i have very little hope that they'll push wiregaurd out soon

still getting crappy speeds downloading from seedbox to my pc via cuteftp 🙁

its like a hit & trial system. keep restarting cuteftp & hoping that i get good speeds or wait for a while & try and then sometimes it starts getting the full speeds.

i am open to suggestions here. seedbox won't do anything about it - they just closed my complaints. also, the routing is being done via spectra as i saw my traffic being routed even if i hit other sites.

EDIT:
not all traffic is being routed via the same route by spectra so i am not sure if its spectra or seedbox who is routing the traffic. all i know is its taking a really long way and thus the shitty speeds.

You can try to run traceroute both from your pc to seedbox and from Seedbox to your IP to check if takes unnecessary hops but spectra won't fix even if it does
Try other Seedbox provider
Try both plain ftp or ftps and sftp
Your Seedbox might also provide a way to download using http/ https then you can use a Downloader like idm and get the files using that

unfortunately nothing works... 🙁

http(s) using IDM - same speeds
ftp/ftps/sftp - same speeds

there are no seedboxes this cheap i could find.

already did tracert and posted results on this thread some time back. however, i don't think it makes any difference. yesterday night, i did get full speeds later on and so i did a tracert again. guess what, it was still taking the same long route that it took when i was getting crappy speeds. the only thing i can surmise is that its a shared seedbox and i get bad speeds when someone else is hogging it. i guess thats something i ll just have to live with. dedicated seedboxes are too expensive for me.

There are better shared Seedboxes too i got mine on a biannual sale from USB cost me about 9USD per month advanced paid for two years
3TB storage 20TB upload bandwidth
And I max out my 1gbps spectra connection

Also it's been a few days running rtorrent with PIA VPN using unraid on my new PC I have reached speeds of over 800mbps and get great ratios even on private trackers

okay didn't want to create a new thread and since we were already talking about PIA,
did anyone notice PIA India server disappear for few days?
when i was doing few more tests today noticed it was back though i dont have data from previous server looks like they might have changed their DC

speeds used to be around 10-30 mbps at max for me dont remember the latency though
but on the new DC located in mumbai i get 30ish ms ping and speeds over 200-500mbps (using their speed test service) and looks like the server is only capable of 4gbps total load but gives much better result thanbefore

Earlier PIA used HostDime Delhi but they severed ties with them and now they use WebWerks Mumbai. Now only IPVanish uses HostDime Delhi
