Hi! I want to buy a smartphone for my mother. The one she's using right now is Mi Note 4 (for more than 2 years now). She doesn't have any issues with it as such, but recently she has realized the importance of 'camera', because of Zoom meetings and video calls. Mi has screwed up the operating system over time, so I would really avoid buying an Mi phone. Usage is quite limited to games such as Angry Birds and YouTube.

POCO X3 is working great for me.

Disabling Ads is easy, just a little annoying as it is nested within setting of multiple apps.[15 minutes setup]

For those who want to go one step further :Mi Ads services + Facebook Ad services is pretty easy to do without any risk(Just connect the phone to PC , load the app and click uninstall)

Camera is pretty good if you want to avoid it doing makeup to your face or capture exact textures or lighting without too much caking the scene, Gcam is available.
[Warning : Don't use Gcam if you are not 8/10 and above in looks, it holds no bar in showing the truth]

Speaker if you play it too loud you can feel little vibrations , altho' it didn't annoy me, if it does to you upgrade to latest MIUI which just disables that speaker ...that's not for me...
+point is speakers are very clear when loud, no voice shrilling,etc..

MIUI Black mode support is very good, lots of apps when setting it to dark mode turns so black it feels like I'm using AMOLED

Depends on your priorities and who is using it.
The only downside I feel is that massive 6.8" screen and only 4/64 variant is released. If you can live with that then there ain't issues worth complaining. I don't think any brand comes close to giving you 12 bands of 5g at this price. There's Samsung M52 5G but it costs 30k.
4/64 can be forgiven given its near stock Android, good Ram management. If you are using for Casual use, I don't think you will have issues.
Think of 5G as a supplementary feature. It's going to come sooner or later. Even if you remove 5G feature, the fact that you get stock Android and the remaining features for this price is still a good buy anyday. I hardly think anyone would give you 12 bands at this price even when 5G is launched. Heck, I say, prices will increases once 5G actually launches.

Once bitten, twice shy! Get her a tempered glass and a case.
I think G31 should be good for her. Get a 6/64 or 6/128 just for future proofing. I am assuming she would be social media frenzy so additional Ram should be good.
Do note that support for G31 will be limited to Android 12 since it's a basic device.

Compact form factor is available mostly in premium phones only. Anyway, I recommend Samsung M14 or A14 (particularly during the sale). I chose A1x series after watching this video…

Both M14 and A14 are like bricks. So, both fail in your requirement of form factor.

Edit: initially I had M14. Then migrated to A34 due to IP rating and compact form factor that I got with the new phone. Also, it was available at 20k (8gb model) in gulf. So, bought it through a cousin.

Samsung Galaxy M31

cannot really comment on the quality of front camera on phones in this range. even samsung s10 lite which cost more than double has a shit front camera.

Samsung Galaxy M30s as a cheaper alternative. have pinged nishant who is my go-to guy for such queries.

S9 at last sale for 18.5k was best bet if camera is priority. Better wait . It can come again. Samsung still got inventory left i think.
