I have active connection of Airtel 4G Dongle (Huawei E5573Cs-609). I also have broadband connection.
But my broadband router is in another room, and I work in different room. So Wifi signal from broadband connection router is weak at place where I work.

Recently I discovered that my Airtel 4G dongle can also work as WiFi extender. I saw online for steps to make it work as Wifi extender.
In dongle's web based UI, I turned ON Wifi extender. It started displaying several Wifi networks in my Apartment, but was not displaying SSID of my broadband connection router. I manually added SSID, Password to add my broadband connection network. It was added and displayed in priority list.

Now I want to know whether my internet data is coming from Airtel 4G or through my broadband connection.

As per this website, its displaying Wifi router SSID in their home page - How to use Airtel hotspot 4G Router as Range Extender (WiFi Repeater)

Disable 4g data and check ip address on your connected devices.

When I disable 4G data, internet connection is lost, so I guess its either not connecting to my broadband router, or not working as WiFi extender.

Manually entering ssid details is only required for hidden ssid. So most probably dongle is not recieving wifi signals from your router. Try placing it in the middle of your router and your room..

You are right, for some reason Airtel dongle is not detecting WiFi signal from Router. But my Mobile and Laptop is displaying Router SSID in WiFi list.
I can be more sure because my neighbor also has same connection and Router, and his SSID is displayed on my Mobile and Laptop but not by Dongle (Neighbor's signal is in fact strong in my room compared to my own Router 😀)

Might be Dongle does not support WiFi channel on which Broadband router is broadcasting WiFi signals.

Your router must be transmitting on 2.4 ghz frequency, hence airtel dongle should be detecting it becoz 2.4ghz frequencies are supported by all devices on any channel. How far is your router from where you require the signal? Try keeping dongle next to router and then search for it.

I am also facing the same problem. But only with the broadband. If I try to extend a portable hotspot created from my phone, that SSID is displayed while scanning. But not the broadband. How to fix it ?
