One basic question that baffles me is....... What this Govt. is doing for the daily wagers/ living on the road.

Absolutely.... nothing.

Will this not be a law and order situation....... or they want them to die of starvation silently.....

Even his 21 days curfew is a sham.

Yesterday night..... I went to buy medicine after his announcement..... there was so much chaos and rush in the medicine/ grocery shops. People were piling up like at a free langar............. So here Corona Virus will wait....... and say Ok...... Modi has not yet said Go.... And Corona Virus will wait during the time given to buy Essentials.....

We are all acting naive...... Having empathy for those dying in Italy and indifferent for those on the streets.

Atleast Kereala Govt. has been sensible....

And those expecting this Central Govt. creating Hospital/ medical infrastructure in next 15days are dreaming.

After demonitisation you really think he care about lower class?
You know who is loyal vote bank of bjp? Upper class hindu.... all they care about.

Actually the insurance guy would send me the notice by WhatsApp (snail mail would come later). And I would pay by NEFT & the policy copy/receipt would be sent by Whatsapp again & snail mail later
You can try online insurance brokerage sites. That's how I am renewing insurance for my vehicles since last few years.

It's mind boggling how quickly this thread has become a tribalistic mess.
I thought that the one thing everyone (at least the type of people who visit this site) would agree on is that it was the correct decision to lock down the country.

Ok, that's very reasonable. I also think we should have a proper discussion about what things could/ should be handled differently and how to execute them.

Went out just now. No hysteria, people buying quietly only they have to be told to keep distance being middle class people everyone falls in line. And basically they are people who possibly you have seen for many years & vice versa. Looks like ppl have got their emotions in control now. Which is v heartening.👍🏻

Government does not have to build hospitals in 15 days.As I understand, Government has to make sure there are enough tests available so that when shit hits the fan we have means to make sure we can test people and isolate them.

Difference between Italy and South Korea is the number of people they are/were testing every day. US is in Stage 3 and they are the next epicenter for the spread because they do not yet have capability to test people at scale. As I said before, India, in my opinion, can not afford that.

It is not a curfew, it is a lock down where the non essential things have been asked to close. It will reduce the number of people outside in a bid to try and flatten the curve.

In my opinion, people (including people who are enforcing the lock down) have misunderstood the orders given by the government mostly due to bad reporting by Indian media, which is causing the panic and in turn making the situation worse.

In my opinion, if this lock down would not have been implemented our medical system would have been so overwhelmed that it would have been really hard to recover. With this lock down in place, load will distributed among different areas like For some government will have to provide medicine/treatment. For some it has to provide food. For some it has provide shelter and so on.

I completely agree with you that government should start putting food and shelter for the people who need it and it should have been addressed by Modi. But I believe and sincerely hope that with time more and more state governments will start helping people who are in need.

I do not have any more empathy for people dying in Italy than I have for a daily wage worker in India but I do not want to see a situation like Italy in India. In Italy, doctors have to choose who gets the ventilator and people who are not get picked up, drown in their own body fluids. There is no turning back from such a situation.

I wish they could have made clear that essentials will be available, and maybe given some clear info how it will be available. People flocking to markets. Or maybe do some type of delivery service or tie up with private. Thankfully I have stocked 1 month ration. Though would have been better if we put all the nri in hotel or something, or put CCTV in their room or something. But now this is only option left I guess

What I understand that despite their best intentions (or what seems or is implied) the things are not working or going to work.

Why???

Because....

1. To lead the campaign/ Project they should have brought some one from the Medical Profession with integrity, reputation & credibility........ People like Trump/ Modi/ Amitabh Bachhan (in their respective Countries/ area's) are laughing stock. (And the 5PM Janta Curfew day action.... they made a bigger fool of themselves)

2. They should have been straight forward with the people...... rather than the testing water approach... could have saved a lot of panic.

3. Actually start doing something on ground to instill confidence in People... Start testing/ screening people.

4. Take control of their motor mouths....... UP minister still talking of Yagna's/ Cow urine etc.

5. Lay down clear modus operandi/ guidelines for maintaining essential services/ Supplies.

The biggest problem is BJP/ Modi........ They have lied so many times that People have lost confidence.

Now with this background People are under fear & confusion. My own perception is that this Govt. is not going to do anything and after the crisis is over, they will allocate a huge budget to build medical infrastructure .......... and all the projects $$$ will go to their friends.

A Happy Ending.

If you have insurance policy premiums to pay, help is at hand. Life insurance companies have been directed to ensure that policyholders get an additional grace period – time available after the due date – to make their premium payments. You can now pay your health insurance premium up to 30 days after the due date, without running the risk of the policy being lapsed.
