How is your ISP doing with increased traffic due to the COVID-19?

I can vouch for point 1. Leased line can help you in achieving that. With a single connection I was getting 40-50 MBps on a Gig leased line. If I use an SSD and multiple connections I was able to push close to 115-120 MBps on almost every US/Europe file download (not on speedtest.net as they are not mostly accurate).
The above speedtest were done using speedtest files that many ISP host on their network

As far as point 2 goes pings are consistent (not better but solid AF).

There are other benefits of leased line/getting into commerical relations with an ISP but none of them are useful for home use

Edit: No FUP whatsoever on leased lines. I am still shocked to know that you have not yet surpassed the 3.3 Tb limit on airtel 1Gbps plan.

That is something that may be useful to some. But I wouldn’t pay a 100x premium for it. If that’s truly the case, I would pay maybe 4K for a 200 Mbps leased line. But that’s about it. Wouldn’t pay 50L a year for it.

Since today (25-03-2020) morning it is observed that BSNL has problem loading some websites (including twitter). After switching to Jio twitter loaded.

Anybody else facing the same problem?

@aakshey Tell Airtel FTTH to come to Shillong, I'll gladly be their first customer 😂
They dont expand their services easily. They are looking at metropoltian areas only for their services i think. Also now their backhaul capacity is very large as compared to their user base thats why everyone of their customers getting best speeds.

@aakshey you started a thread prev of why everyone here says airtel is better than jio? Then they rectified ur problem & u endlessly started praising them even more than us.

In many comparison you talk about jitters.... what you need lower jitter for?

Then you started talking about why a fellow living in village ... asking about why even live in village?!

Now you started comparison with leased line. Without knowing about what purpose lease line solves!?

How old are you ?
What you do?
Curious coz all I can guess is kiddo who has newly laid hands to airtel gigabit internet.

Seams like excitel has some serious issue going on with excitel server, getting around 1 mbps in Delhi. I spoke to LCO saying issue with backend and whole NCR is facing similar download issue .
Speedtest by Ookla
ISP: Excitel
Latency: 81.70 ms (0.36 ms jitter)
Download: 1.18 Mbps (data used: 1.8 MB)
Upload: 40.19 Mbps (data used: 71.3 MB)
Packet Loss: 0.0%

I guess they use different gateways region wise. I am on Excitel in Delhi. Getting max speed from yesterday evening (after the core network ticket was closed).
ISP: Excitel
Latency: 2ms (Excitel server)
D/U: 52Mbps/58Mbps

Airtel Server
Latency: 8ms
D/U: 51Mbps/56Mbps

@igloo

I am 29 years old now.

1. I was curious why Airtel was better than Jio. I had no opinion of my own.

2. I don't know why low jitter is better. I do know low jitter is better. I do know gaming needs low jitter. I don't do gaming.

3. No comments on the village part. I can understand wanting to live in San Gimigiano. Why somebody would want to live in an Indian village is beyond my understanding.

4. I am still curious why people need a leased line. Why not just get a reliable internet connection that delivers promised speeds. I know the theory. But that falls flat because companies like Airtel/ACT provided advertised speeds to every single customer 100% of the time. So the dedicated line thing is non sensical theory and not of any practical use. Airtel offers 100% up time even to normal customers. If a leased line has any other benefits, I am curious.

5. I am an entrepreneur. Google GaiaQ.com. We work with brands like Policy Bazaar, Hyatt, Housing, Oyo, Lemon Tree, Mobikwik, Nearbuy, DineOut, BookMyShow, etc.

I understand where you are coming from, for non-techy person or one whose day to day work doesn't involve tech can have hard time appreciating the nuances of the technical challenges because technology despite the obstacle be it geographics, political or laws of physics themselves has went to level of working so level that until it goes down and goes down really good nobody blinks an eye on it.

2. I don't know why low jitter is better. I do know low jitter is better. I do know gaming needs low jitter. I don't do gaming.

You are not required to know it just like a network engineer doesn't need to know how bicuspid valve of heart works until some close relative of him his suffering from some cardio problems.
We do appreciate your curiosity thought, keep up mate +1

Jitter will mess up VoIP for business people and gamers need no introduction for it, it scares the best of them .

technical terms: when you have very highly varying latency --> this is called Jitter

Why Jitter is my enemy?

Jitter is just a measure of multiple-effects, not a cause!. It is an aftermaths of lots of things in background like queuing, traffic loads and competition between traffics at different speeds/priorities and together what this ultimately leads to out of order packets, think like this you ask someone to do something for you
but you somehow the instruction mannual has all the steps mangled, what do you thinks gonna happen?
😛

The apps be it fps game or voip call which depends on fast transfer/process of packets when receive packets out of order it creates chaos for them.
(you miss headshot, call with your boss is full of hiccups , the messages are jumbled and sometimes pixelations which will make you laught at him at wrong time)

4. I am still curious why people need a leased line.

Two words: Mission critical

For your average customer internet going down, or getting 5mbps on 1 gbps or some high pings here or there for a while doesn't affect them in a commercial, yeah it might not be your money's wortht that you pay 5000 INR/month but internet goes off for 7 days but it won't make you wallet / business cash bleed.

Now think of a bank, not even a big one, say a branch of a small bank if their internet goes down even for 2 hour, think how muchruckus it creates both for the bank and customer(transactions failed, delayed or denied or even as customer your time is wasted coming to bank ) and for an 8 hour work day they lose 20% of it and at bank scale it means a lot

So banks need ILL, for them internet going down bleeds money

Scenario 2: Suppose you have created some slack like apps which allows video conference, now suppose suddenly ping to your server spikes, now all your clients who shell dollar to you will face massive inconvenience which costs them a lot(lots of meeting cancelled)

So your startup need ILL, no matter what goes wrong on clients connection, their connection to you must not be jaggy as it will cost you customer and lose money in SLAs

Similar cases are for bandwidth/speeds.

ILL is a guarrantee of service and QoS for business/individuals where service downtime/ quality affects the business severely, Airtel may provide you good service most of the time but never will be the time Airtel's service will go down/QoS for an ILL customer and if it does happens then depending on the agreements they have to compensate if something really bad happens.

3. No comments on the village part. I can understand wanting to live in San Gimigiano. Why somebody would want to live in an Indian village is beyond my understanding.

Same here 😛

But in simple words: Evreything has pros and cons and each to his own.

I know that. I was just joking around. Which ISP in India "expands easily" anyway apart from BSNL and Jio?

3. I don't understand that either. I'm tech-savvy and would personally prefer a tech-savvy metropolitan city or country if feasible.

Well Internet is not expected to work same way people are using lot of OTT apps, so i still had inactive jio fiber connection..as my active ISP is ACT due to obvious reasons.

Thanks to Asus router, connected both ISP to single router and enabled dual wan. Jio has 250mbps plan and ACT have 300 mbps activated.
