Upgraded to Gigabit again. 🙂 Still same issue. Download 350 Upload 900. Please escalate this and get this fixed. 🙁

Using D-Link CAT6 to connect via Ethernet.

Tried connecting directly via modem. Tried multiple routers.

Tried multiple cables. Tried multiple PC (all capable of Gigabit, Core I7 32GB RAM SSDs etc), tried multiple iPad Pro 2018

Download on SpeedTest.net to ANY server including Bharti Airtel, Airtel Broadband etc is always D300ish U900ish.

If I use Fast.com (very little use for me) I can get D700+ U800+. If I use SpeedTest.net.in (unreliable) I get D700 U900.

However, the gold standard is SpeedTest.net. And there I get D350ish U900ish.

If I test using Airtel’s own Speed Test I still get D300ish U900ish.

Over WiFi using my Orbi system D300ish U500ish.

No matter how I look at it, D is limited around 300ish regardless of setup.

Upload is fine. On Fast.com Download is fine. But that is of very limited use.

When downloading from Apple servers I typically get 2-6 MBps (about 15-50 Mbps). If I use IDM (Internet Download Manager), I can get around 40 MBps (300 Mbps) per parallel download. With multiple downloads I can get a combined 90 MBps (700 Mbps).

But who really downloads multiple files at the same time using IDM on a Windows PC?

The speed on Mac and iPhone/iPad is closer to 5-10 MBps (80-150 Mbps when downloading from Apple servers.

But that’s besides the point. I’m looking at two things:

I should get 700-900+ Download from Bharti Airtel server at speedtest.net

Please fix the jitter to US servers. It should be under 10 ms max over WiFi and under 0.1 ms max LAN like EU/Indian servers.

Airtel guy came to my house today morning. He was on call with the back end. They fixed the speed issue. Now I get 850ish D and 900ish U.

Initially they even fixed the jitter to US servers. It was under 0.3 ms. However, the jitter issue is back after a few hrs. Speed is fine though. I am still happy. 🙂

YT IDM I was getting nearing 115 MBps consistently when I tried. This was with one download running.

That is why around 300Mbps is the optimum plan for the moment. Most websites and servers don’t support more than that and it is difficult to exceed that in WiFi. You only need 1Gbps if you have a very large tech hungry household logged in at the same time. Of course this will change in a couple of years.

Check my new reply. Airtel fixed it. Now I’m getting 1 Gbps. For a brief second it was 1.5 Gbps.

I am giving few deal breakers below-:
1. CG-NET
It may not affect you but it really hampers performance.
2.Router
You cannot use Jiofiber Router in Bridge mode.
It really sucks as it is always accessible to be remotely controlled by MyJio app.It is a security nightmare.
3. Technical support
Imagine having a technical support that does not even know anything about the VLAN ID.
4.DPI
Yupp,Airtel also may be using it,but Jio is going way ahead and blocking access to VPN and sometimes legit websites like Reddit and telegram. It sucks dude.
5. Faith
Airtel guys know what they are doing and share required details so that you can manually configure router as per your security. They know the details of product.
But Jio is Ambani.I DO NOT BELIEVE THIS GUY.HE SAID """"DATA IS THE OIL."""" and I heard """"ALL OF MY USERS ARE MY PRODUCT""""

Haha. This man said everything which many doesn't understand.

Jio is good in some terms but for sure not anywhere near Airtel.

Don't expect this in Jio or any other ISP will be my conclusion to you for your question. There are many more technical where Airtel is better but to explain them you would have to use JioFiber yourself.

@Shades it is most likely happening because of cgnat in Jio. Try lowering keepalive if your VPN has that setting or try setting up vpn tunnel over ipv6. Probably not much else you can do.

This is rdg point 2.

In Airtel fiber too, though the Huawei GPON/ONT can be put in bridge mode, the plan change won't work in bridge mode. This happened with me . Only after putting it back to router mode, the plan change happened. May be this could be one reason for Jio not allowing bridge mode. But, how many times does one do plan change. Since Airtel is postpaid type, I kept checking the different plans using the change plan option in router mode.

But what's the link between bridge mode and access to the ONT for plan change. Isn't the plan change done in the backend servers. Pl enlighten me. Thanks in advance.

Plan change is not related to bridge mode at all. I guess it was just an issue with your plan change request on airtel's back end. That gave you the feeling that plan change can't be done when on bridge mode. Also, the person you spoke to didn't have any clue, so he also told you that plan change didn't happen because of bridge mode.

Dear @gopichandpai, If its not related, why did they send a technician to my house saying that they will do a plan change via app on their mobile. I guess they want access to my ont for doing this.

When I said that mine is in bridge mode, he said that's the reason why it was not done automatically. I reverted it by the time he came home. He did something and it was done immediately. Any how, now that since the ont is back in bridge mode, I'll try a plan change again after few days and check if it gets done without any issue.

@Kick933 how exactly does CG-NAT hampers performance? I'm really curious to know. As far as I understand, except the applications which need open NAT like P2P gaming, everything should work fine and it shouldn't affect things like latency in other applications.
