Now that I am evaluating Kerala Vision broadband, thought I would create a thread to share my experience. My LCO provides broadband services from BSNL and Kerala Vision, so thought would be good to evaluate Kerala Vision as well.

Getting the account setup was pretty easy, cause there was no need for additional cabling or ONT etc. I shared a photo and ID/address proof doc to the LCO, and the same day evening he setup my account and shared the credentials. The LCO shares the same OLT for all services, so on my end, I just needed to configure my OpenWRT device appropriately.

Initially I didn't get the Kerala Vision VLAN, so I had to reach out to the LCO's tech guy who shared the id. I added the VLAN to the switch (my ONT is a transparent bridge, so I needed no change on the ONT) which created an interface and all I needed to do was add the necessary interface configuration with the PPPoE credentials.

As you can see, they use CG-NAT which is disappointing but other than BSNL and few others nobody else gives public IP addresses. Also I liked the fact that things just worked on first try 😆 (the above screenshot is from my first try to connect)

Will add more details as I explore more.

Thanks for the reply bro. Actually they are using GPON OLT only. That I confirned with them. But the LCO guy is adamant. He just wants to make money out of this. He is telling that it will only work if I buy the modem from him. I dont want to buy that since I already have one with me (and as you said, both modem and OLT are GPON here). My 2 cousins took Kerala Vision service, but their LCO is different. He charged only 2500 for them. Then how come my LCO guy insisting this much money. Ok leave it, that is different story. So in short, both OLT and my modem are GPON. So I can use my Nokia modem itself right.!! If in case my LCO agrees to install my own Nokia modem, can anyone tell me how to configure it.??
your airtel nokia ont will not work on other isps with gpon olt becoz airtel provides locked onts

Hi .. new user here. I have 2 questions -

a) I have a KeralaVision connection 20 mbps unlimited but it has become extremely slow at peak hours that I can't even stream video. Does anyone know if KV has a practice of throttling speeds of video packets/file hoster downloads speeds for users like me?

b) I tried to shift to a BSNL plan this week and the officer in charge assured me that I can use my existing EPON modem (that I use for KV) instead of buying the BSNL's modem. Now at the last minute, after the technician was laying the cables .. they said my epon modem is not compatible and that I have to buy the BSNL modem. Are they lying to me to get the extra modem fees or is there really a compatibility problem here?

Love to hear your advice.

Isn't keralaVision just a fiber network and not isp ? All the fiber was layed by Kerala Govt with partnership of State Electricity Board ?

Kerala Vision is an ISP @AAK They mostly work with LCOs for last mile connectivity.

You are referring to KFON which would provide a fiber network other ISPs and providers can make use of, but it's not fully live yet at-least, I have not seen any ISPs making use of it yet.

Reactions: AAK
Tenda E101 is an EPON ONT. If BSNL is using Alphion OLTs as @AAK suggested or just using any GPON OLT then it wouldn't work. Also, BSNL cannot be generalised, the OLT config depends on the local cable operator, the area etc.

Regarding the throttling and slow speeds, just check the initial posts on this thread. They had improved at some point but I probably not very much.

Thanks .. that is helpful information. I will buy a new ONT then. Which is your ISP, if you don't mind me asking?

One last thing. I read the early pages of this thread like you suggested. Many of the posts are yours. I am not too familiar with some of the technical terms like trace routing, load balancing, ping checking, spikes etc... Do you have any recommendations for a video or article to learn/explain this network commands or technical stuff for a simpleton like me? I would love to check the latency of my connection frequently on my own. I am a quick learner 🙂

Does the latest firmware for Netlink hg323rgw(V-SOL HG323RGW) has the command injection vulnerability(authenticated) similar to software version 1.0.11. My ONT's software version is 1.0.29-200319 and it is vulnerable. (Vulnerability is in diagnose>ping diagnose and tracert diagnose).
You can test it by typing ;ls instead of ip in ping diagnose.

Has anyone tried IPv6 connectivity with keralavision recently. It was working perfectly couple of months back, but seems to be troublesome since the past few days.
