Now that I am evaluating Kerala Vision broadband, thought I would create a thread to share my experience. My LCO provides broadband services from BSNL and Kerala Vision, so thought would be good to evaluate Kerala Vision as well.

Getting the account setup was pretty easy, cause there was no need for additional cabling or ONT etc. I shared a photo and ID/address proof doc to the LCO, and the same day evening he setup my account and shared the credentials. The LCO shares the same OLT for all services, so on my end, I just needed to configure my OpenWRT device appropriately.

Initially I didn't get the Kerala Vision VLAN, so I had to reach out to the LCO's tech guy who shared the id. I added the VLAN to the switch (my ONT is a transparent bridge, so I needed no change on the ONT) which created an interface and all I needed to do was add the necessary interface configuration with the PPPoE credentials.

As you can see, they use CG-NAT which is disappointing but other than BSNL and few others nobody else gives public IP addresses. Also I liked the fact that things just worked on first try 😆 (the above screenshot is from my first try to connect)

Will add more details as I explore more.

@varkey I can't seem to figure out how to send a private message on this forum,i will confirm with the lco if i can use a bridged ont with there olt and get back to you

Did anyone try this
Rs. 1,394.90 | Original hua wei single model SFP module single SC port PTXM167-431 B+I Module for GPON ONU FiberCore

The price and shipping makes economic sense for me to order and give it a try and it would arrive fairly soon as special line is gati and speed post for the last mile also since package is so small will be exempt from tax if i can convince seller to declare a commercial value of 200rs and cif of thr same amount

@Massivesiege Doesn't seem to have free shipping to India?

Also, Special Line Yanwen is no longer through Gati, it's being sent via Malaysia Post Registered. Comes in about 20-30 days. I've got couple of packages recently. There shouldn't be any duty though if the seller marks it for less than 10 USD or so.

From my tiny research a while back (and I could be completely wrong too), the Huawei GPON SFP modules can only be managed through the OLT, there is no web UI or any management options. If your LCO validates ONT serial number etc, you wouldn't be able to clone it like you'd do for other ONTs, and you would need to get them to whitelist the SFP module's serial.
It's definitely worth a try though, I'd have tried if I already had a SFP supported switch or router 😅

@varkey For some reason i thought I saw it being shipped via special line yt maybe I saw what I wanted to see

all the Netlink modems which the lco has no issues recommending seem to be out of stock on the website and lco wants to sell a genexsis ont with wifi for 2750 Rs which I don't want as I would be paying for stuff that I wouldn't even be using

Anyone tried the ZTE modem f601 ? As this seems to be cheapest now that netlink isn't selling anything anymore

Rs. 1,152.35 15%OFF | ZTE F601 ONT ONU GPON FTTH Modem opticl line termical EchoLife GE gpon terminal f601 Interface English GPON Terminal version 6.0

Hi all,
I am new to this forum. In my area Varapetty in Kothamangalam, Ernakulam district, we have KeralaVision. LCO dont support BSNL ( thats what he said)
I opted for KeralaVision 60Mbps and the speed is very good except some pressing issues below.

1. Disconnects 10 - 15 times for short times during the day.
2. Less often during night.
3. I am in work from home mode and I loose my SSH connection many times due to this. (broken pipe)
4. I also connect to my work servers via ZeroTier and issues aside from ZeroTier which is a bit sluggish to recognize routes, it also seems to be slow on KeralaVision. Does KV have a thing against VPN tunnels ?

I have a Jio HotSpot device as backup and everything seems to work normal when using hotspot which gives max 6Mbps in my area.

But things are not good with KV which gives 60Mbps, I see latency of 250ms to ping google and 100% loss during continuous pings at random times during day & night.
I do not see LOS light in the modem during these times at all.

What else might be the problem then ?

I am using Netlink HG323RGW GPON ONT device.
Is there a latest firmware upgrade I can download ?
My local operator is PPPoE.
Is my default MTU of 1492 ok ?
Please see attached screenshot of Optical Tx/Rx power and firmware version.

Thanks for the reply. What fixed my disconnects was downgrading the firmware.. I was on the latest and greatest firmware. I downgraded to 1.0.29-200319 and it seems to have fixed the problem. Now no more disconnects and I am happy with Keralavision for now 🙂

Hey guys,

At the end of the plan cycle, does the internet disconnect when it hits 12 AM post 30th day or at the exact time when we last recharged, i.e. 6.59 AM on the 31st day?

@aKrRaC , If the connection is KV , I guess either your LCO has to register the mac address of your C6 or you will have to clone the mac of existing Netlink ONT to C6. I would suggest you should go with second method.

Then change the Internet profile type to Bridge in Netlink , bind the port to LAN2. Connect C6's WAN port to Netlink's LAN2 and provide the KV username and password as shown in the fig.

Try to dial the connection , if it succeeds , you are all set , now you may disable the WiFi in NetLink and enjoy C6's Wifi.
